Maybe others knew this but I started noticing these spots on the bottom of the doors, especially noticeable on white. Asked shop what it was when I was in there and they said metal inside the moldings rusts and the rust goes through the plastic, paint etc and touching up was their suggestion. I looked at it closer later today and that didnt seem to make sense as there was no rust behind panel just what looked like rust run off from the door drains. Took some polishing compound to it and to my surprise it all came off.

Glad I didnt do any unnecessary touch up work.

I have used rubbing alcohol to clean this up on paint on an old white volvo. Worked a charm and didn't damage the clear coat that I could see.

I just got my new white 2000 LX home and was pulling off the running boards and noticed this today. Scared the bejeezus out of me. Now I can sleep tonight. Thank you!

Nice solution!

Glad to help, enjoy the LX! Just about every white LX I see seems to have these spots or I just notice them more now.

Has anyone pulled off the molding to verify the doors aren't rusting?

I have done that on my 2001 LX. No rust whatsoever. However, my truck came from California, so that is probably a factor. Also, there was clear evidence that water was getting behind the molding. My truck has been garaged it's entire life.

Good to hear.
No rust here either, that's why I tried polishing in the first place as there was no evidence of rust anywhere.
Good too hear. How long has it been on Denver roads, and do you wash often?

Here in Colorado the road salt and mag chloride concerned me. The mag chloride even eats my cement garage floor. I sold a vehicle years ago that was wash bimonthly at a Drive Through Car Wash (DTCW) with underbody wash option. While DTCW was ok for salt, the mag chloride gets into to areas salts' larger gains didn't seem too and sticks.

I now use the priciest self-service car wash in area, to get undercarriage after every storm. I get behind all hindebody molding the best I can on my LC. I have some concern with LC, and much more concerned with LX's larger hindend area.

For the most part in our part of Denver they use mag chloride and we don't have humidity so rust has never been an issue on any of my cars for the last 16 years here or really any local newer cars like these that I have seen. Mine are all really clean for age with regular washes after storms etc. You should have seen some of the folks who live in Illinois etc who sent me pics of the under carriages on some newer 200 series, amazing how fast rust can rot things out.
