I recently purchased a 2006 lx470 and noticed the DRLs (Day time running lights) aren't working, despite both high beams- which share the same bulb for the DRLs functioning normally. I'm not looking to do any LED upgrades or anything like that, and after reading some other threads I haven't found anything that seems to be applicable. Is this a problem anyone else has had or can provide some advice?

did someone use techstream and turn them off?
check for amps at the running light resistor on the firewall passenger side.
check continuity from resistor connector to the passenger side high beam plug (both female terminals of same)

unplug the connector on the high beams and plug new bulbs in to check.
They're stringed along from drivers to passenger so any break in the circuit will affect all. From the stalk in the cab to the ground on the passenger side fender.

I wouldn't mess with the relays until I checked all of that. For the sake of talking about it I'd replace or file down the legs of the 4 headlight fuses.

You need techstream though, in case they are turned dtrl off, unless you've seen them work normally since you bought the car.

I thought that might be it but was hoping maybe there was just a bulb issue or something. The prior owner had the car on mall crawler duty so I'm surprised they'd go through all that trouble. thanks for the help

I turned mine off in techstream and I'm in mall crawler spec. Did it when I was in there tuning the AHC. Do the "how to techstream" search and check there first. I had to tinker with it on an old laptop but it's worth having in your toolkit. While you're in there, dialing in your AHC is worth it also... Congrats on the new rig.
