Like many driver's seats the bottom cushion and leather on door side are starting to look fairly worn. Instead of getting new leather I started thinking about whether it might be possible to swap the bottom of the seat from the driver's side to the front passenger side. This way i get more life from the original seat leather and cushions (and save $$). Has anyone tried to attempt this?

I haven't seen this, but this is a very good idea, almost like rotating tires. The wear on the seats is usually on the outside edge, this would really help to balance out the wear.

I have taken the seats out to do a thorough cleaning of the seats and carpet, and will warn you, that the 2 rear bolts on each seat go through the cab to the underside in a welded nut. So if you decide to take them off, I would make sure to spray some PB on those for a few days before you decide to work on them. I ended up breaking one, had to drill it out and replaced it with SS nut/bolt.

I havent tried on on my cruiser but I did it on my 1985 mercedes and it worked slick.

This is the best new idea I've heard in a long time. So simple.

Problem is, parts catalog shows a difference in the covers per side. I'm not sure they're cut the same which means you'd have some custom fitment to do.
I know the bolstering right next to where the seat belt bolts is a little different, to not interfere with it as much, but I'm not sure by how much, or if it's enough to cause fitment issues in any practical sense. I might look at the seats in my truck tonight to try to get a better idea.

Resurecting old thread here... Is it better to just start a new thread? Anyway has anyone done this? I know the bolsters are a little different but not by much. I'm planning on recovering the front seats and am thinking about swapping just the foam seat bottom side to side since the driver foam is beat. Not excited about spending 240$ just for the driver seat bottom foam.

Just had this idea and felt really smart and knew I couldn't be the only one so I came here and searched and not surprisingly, I'm not the only one! However I AM surprised to see nobody's done it and reported back yet, or even given definitive reason as to why it will or will not work.

My mouse is hovering on the buy button on the Ridies website, but doing a swap will easily buy me a year or two with the OEM bottom seat covers... Any more info out there?? This is currently by far the biggest cosmetic downfall with my rig

I did this on my 88 4Runner and it worked fine. I imagine it would be fairly easy on the 100 as well? Other sites list them as driver and passenger as well so there may be more to it? If you can live without the covers for a little while it might be worth removing both of them, seeing if they will swap and if not, order the new ones?
