I checked the FAQ page and did a search, but I'm not sure if the LC and the LX center console designs are the same. I have an '01 LX

I've got all my seats out right now and I'm trying to pull out the whole center console, front and rear portions to be able to get the carpet out. First I tried removing the rear portion by taking out the four bolts in the bottom of the console and the screws on the sides, but still something is holding it down. I pulled the back portion off thinking maybe something was inside. Nothing found. I tried pulling up on the cup holders stated in the FAQ, but I don't think the LX's come out by pulling as I was pulling to the point of almost breaking. If anyone can shoot me some pointers it would be great. Thanks.

LX cupholders comes up the same as LC. Don't pull the lid though. That entire area around the gear shifter and t-case shifter all come up vertically with no screws.

Thanks guys! Any advice on removing the storage area portion?

I'm wondering the same thing...

The part around the shifters is easy, but I keep getting hung up with the rest of it.

TIA,
Aj

Haven't pulled mine out before, and I didn't see anything in the FSM about removing it but maybe this parts diagram will help?

I have had mine out twice, but can't remember the exact sequence. I know that each time I also removed both front seats to make the job easier, but it might be possible with them in there - not sure.

First I removed (unscrewed) the high/low lever handle. Then I removed the center console cover (around the shifter). I did this by pulling straight up with a little help from a set of plastic prying tools.

Then IIRC there are four screws near the rear end of the console, 2 or four bolts on the floor of the console interior, then I think two more screws up near where it joins to the from plastic sides.

There might be two that hook to some metal framework under the console cover - should be pretty obvious (anything going through the plastic into the supporting metal frame underneath).

Then just wiggle it out.

I pulled the cup holder out to access more screws when I took mine out. I started at the front - you will want to pop out the AHC switches and seat heater switches to disconnect. also, pop out the shift indicator. Screws on the side, under cup holder and inside the storage console. I think there were some in the rear if I remember correctly.

Three screws each side plus two in the console. You also need to pull off the arm rests for the upward clearance for the box. To access the side screws you have to move the seats all the way forward and all the way back. It would be much easier to do with the seats removed but is certainly not necessary.

And agreed, moving the seats front to back, while in the garage (to avoid rain) was a mild PITA.

I did not see/feel any fasteners in the bottom of the storage compartment, but I could have missed these under the felt floor cover...

If I take this on, I will shoot some pictures.
