I would give a good recommendation to the Front Runner products. Fit, finish, and design are impressive.

I am leaning towards the Frontrunner but can't decide on the half or full rack. I enjoy my sunroof and don't care to cover it full time. Am considering using the full rack but leaving one or two slats out. Has anyone here done that? Thinking I could still use the full rack for longer stuff if needed.

Thanks

One advantage of the 1/2 rack, it's a lot quieter (if positioned in the middle or rear of the vehicle). I run a 1/2 rack with full length rails. When I need to carry long items, I just add a single yakima/thule crossbar over the sunroof. If you plan on getting an awning, then the full rack is the way to go.

Can you post a picture? I am looking for options. I think I can convert my full rack to a half rack but not 100% positive.

I have the full rack with tall towers so there is no interference with the sunroof operation. Still lets in lots of light. But could easily remove a slat without affecting the rack.

There is some wind noise on the front of the rack, so I would think a half rack might help with that. I may reconfigure to half rack this summer and see how it does. That is another benefit of the frontrunner the modular setup. I also like that it is aluminum because I already run heavy.

My rack is completely off at the moment but it looks very similar to SmoothLC's in post #3... and the single yakima/thule bar is positioned towards the front, when needed. I've been thinking about installing a solar panel over the front half as well.

I would say Gamiviti is the best bang for the buck by far. Mine will be ordered this week or so...

I went with the full Front Runner SlimLineII...I like it so far because it's relatively low profile: I can still get into parkades, and it's pretty easy to attach almost anything too.

I was leaning that way too. I wonder if they would fashion an under rack table mount ala Front Runner? Or for that matter if you could adapt the FR table mount? I'm very tight on space and having a camp table (or two) under the rack would be brilliant.

There's something to be said for the array for options and attachments that FR has figured out and are PNP.

Although at ~$1,400 (including shipping) for the FR sans table vs. ~ $1,000 for a PC, shipped full expo Gamaviti with 4 towers and sunroof cutout the Gamiviti is a nice option.

The thing I really like about both is that they can be configured as completely flat racks for Home Depot runs (see LCP's pic above).
