NEWBIE 80's owner...LX 450

I'm looking at something similar.... I've been thinking about getting an 80 series land cruiser or lexus. I'm looking for low mileage, most likely will have less problems and a smoother running engine.

I looked at this 96" lx450 with 94,000 miles. Paint, leather and body looked really good condition (leather is nicer condition then my 100 that have seen 116,000), when I glanced under the car not much visible rust, except on the surface of the exhaust piping. When I compare it to my 00" 100 series, I would say stiffer gas peddle and it road a bit harder/rougher.... most likely the solid axle. :) Can't wait to have a monster cruiser! Should I look around for the 40th anniversary? How rare is an 80'series in the US with stock lockers?

It's listed for $10,900... I talked down the car dude $900. I told him I might swing by again later during the week.

Can anybody kindly help me out with a carfax or autocheck? I'm really stoked :) Let me know what you think? It has bald tires meaning I'm going to beaf up right away what's the biggest I can go with out re-gearing. I'm going to be really busy building my 80 series knowledge.... reading thousands of posts.

PERSONALY, I would not consider getting one w/o lockers... but to each his/their own. :hillbilly:

A little high$ based on what I spent for mine with Locks 3 years ago with 100K in the Midwest. Seem to be a lot of these around. Just not low mileage like that.

factory lockers are soooo nice offroad. If I were dropping that much , I would buy a 100 series no question.

Looks like it has been taken care of (pic of PS engine block for instance). Perhaps a bit high but I don't think $10K-$11 is out-of-line if you truly want a low-mileage 80. They're not making any more of them the last time I checked. You'll drive yourself mad looking for the right one at the right price eventually. Find one you want and negotiate the best price. If it's reasonable (in your mind), go for it. Just my .02.

Good luck!

Yo Bull...the antenna is broken...and whoever owned this thing put cheap-o tires on it and then, as you stated, ran them bald.

Do you really wanna buy a car from someone who drives on bald tires? They certainly cheaped out on other things if they run bald tires.

Moreover, you all IMO are nutty to even consider paying $10k for this latest LX on this thread...but...keep thinking it's worth it...someday my well-cared for LX just might be for sale and I'd love to get anywhere close to that amount for it :-)

I take it back, they are Bridgestones, not that bad...thought they were Big O tires or something like that...do they all match? I love the used car with two different kinds of tires on it! So hot...

X2 on the tires. Always a great way to tell how people treat their vehicle.

Also, I am not sure if the low miles are such a draw... The parts are the same age, and the wear may be less, but there wear of time still does damage.

Also, you can get two of these guys with higher miles for the same asking price. I got a great one with lockers and 130k for $6600 a couple of months back.

I would offer much less, like $9500 or so. It looks great, but there are lots of great LXs and cruisers out there to be had for less. Save some money and spend it on upgrades.

haha mot, I see myself comming to you for some future buys because I got myself that EIGHTY today.

- The low mileage is what I was looking for because not too many people take care of their vehicles unfortunately. I ended up talking my way into a very sweet deal.

- I agree but since I have a 00' 100, I needed a SASsy 80, so I figured what better then a 93,000 lexus. I was really contemplating the SAS BLUEBERRY when I heard it was for sale but I impulsed on this one instead.

- You couldn't be anymore right! Every time I find an 80 series with lockers and the sage 97 40th edition, it seems to get sold before I can get a plane ticket booked.

- haha.... they are all Bridestones just some were placed on the rims in opposite directions... talked down an extra $100 for the antenna good call!!! figured that one out when the button inside wouldn't control it.

Just another data point:

1996 LX450
155K miles
Lexus service records up to 2004/104K miles
Leather in reasonably good shape including newer panels in passenger and driver seats
Body is good to very good shape
Engine compression was pretty good
No rust
Overall it's in pretty good shape

Needed fixing: worn tires, leaky sunroof and broken cable, drivers door jamb switch, fluid change, 2 small holes in leather

$6800
