LX 470 2006 - Rear whale tail spoiler removal - some ideas to plug the holes, please

Why don't you guys just install labraks light bracket instead of trying to cover the holes. It's made for people that removed the wing and uses the existing holes for the bracket. Then you can mount a small LED light pod for backing up or setting up camp.

1) Because, if I understand correctly, LabRak's brackets work for this type of wind deflector:

and not this type of spoiler:

2) Recently, LabRak/MetricTLC doesn't have a stellar reputation for delivering their orders:

Hmm that may be about the mounts. I just remember seeing something about them when I was on their website. I didn't realize they had slow to no shipping though. I just ordered my antenna mounts from them. If I had know that I would have had my fab guy make up some for me.

I'm looking for a solution to plugging the holes too. It seems that an answer has yet to be provided. I'm also curious of how to remove and install the center brake light on the truck, I see the plate but it is not coming of eady, not sure I want to force it. Help!View attachment 1230948View attachment 1230949
Where did this ladder come from? I just put my roof rack on and I think I need one!!

Is there anyway you could take a close up pic of the mounting of that ladder so that I can see if it could be used with other racks.

x2

Would like to see if it will work with Bajarack

Wow, good thing you guys questioned me! The rack mounts to the rear hatch only. I'm guessing it can be used!

Not the hatch itself, but I screwed into the plastic blanking plate. It comes off when two M6 nuts are removed from the inside of the hatch.

Edit: just realized the question wasn't directed towards me..

I believe you were referring to the ladder.... no drilling. Both tape and pressure screws were used. It's solid as a rock!

Awesome! Thanks I appreciate you taking the time to explain, will be ordering one!

I might get laughed at for asking a seemingly silly question, but ... for anyone who's deleted the whale tail hatch spoiler, has there been a noticeable difference in fuel economy?

I came across some SUV wind tunnel videos while researching aero for my Datsun Z (apparently spoilers are essential to old Z cars) and they say spoilers on SUVs actually do help. Any real world input?

I would think just based on the dirt that now collects on my back window that yes, spoilers help a great deal with aerodynamics, which has to translate in some way (in an LC would it even be noticeable?) to increased mpg.

I installed the ladder in April when I'm sure NY was still getting winter gas, so I have no way of knowing if it got worse. But I'm positive the Gobi rack in general made me lose mpgs...

Thanks for your input, CatskillsRunner.

Every vehicle I add a rack to does take a 1-2 MPG hit in fuel economy. I'm interested in buying someone's used spoiler :)

I got a silver one collecting dust...
