As some of you know Long Range America does not currently/officially offer any fuel tank upgrade for the 2005+ 100 series. The auxiliary tank has issues which can be found elsewhere on this forum. Rumor has it the 150L/40g main tank can be made to fit and work but the process has not been properly documented. I intend to document the process here and share my findings with Aiden at LRA, they’re located just 5 minutes down the road from me. Input/advice from the Mud community is greatly appreciated.

I've heard a few changes were made in the fuel system post 2005. For posterity my 2007 LC100 was built 10/06.
I have a 1/2" body lift, I don't predict this will have an impact on installation but of course I will make note if it does. Since the tank is secured to the body shell it is a possibility.
I replaced the fuel pump 07/22 but otherwise have not touched the fuel system since @2001LC did so much work to this LC. As far as I know the EVAP canister and the rest of the EVAP system is original with 212k miles.

I have heard there could be differences in the crossmember, the early roll over valve 77380-26010 will be needed and that "...some modifications may be needed to the fuel pump lockdown ring on late production 2004 models." Other than that I am flying blind and will learn and report as I go. If anyone here has experience with 100 series fuel tanks (stock or LRA) please don't hesitate to chime in.

I’m also curious to know the weight gain. The LRA tank is a heavy gauge steel and is claimed to tip the scales at ≈120lbs dry. 13.2g of additional fuel will weigh about 80lbs.

LRA's instructions can be found here
@87warrior's install on a 1999 LC can be found here
That being said, this isn't a "How to" thread. This will hopefully cover the differences found between this and earlier 100's, some solutions and anything else I find noteworthy.

I'll be pulling my original tank today. I plan to take my time and do a thorough job of it but hopefully it won't be off the road for too long. I’m really looking forward to having 50% more range that is integrated seamlessly into the vehicle.

I started by following the FSM procedure to depressurize the fuel system. Unplug the fuel pump, start it and let it run til it dies. Then try to start it again to make sure and plug the fuel pump back in. Disconnect the battery, drop the spare tire out of the way and prepare to get a lot of dirt in your face.

Releasing these fittings was the worst part of the job. The orange/yellow collars must be pulled up perpendicular to the hose then the blue tabs on each side are pinched in to release the hose from the hard line. Easier said than done.

Removing the vent line tube (left of the fill hose) from the tank was also a challenge but only because I couldn’t see around the crossmember to understand how it was secured. I finally figured out this red plastic circlip must be removed and then the hose simply pulls straight out.

The same method is used near the EVAP canister if you want to get your eyes on it.

I keep my undercarriage pretty clean but this made quite a mess.

Tank finally out.

I took the opportunity to wipe down the area around the tank. I hate working on dirty stuff.

First problem, judging by the photo on LRA’s website I need a roll over valve with a nipple.

Instead I've got this thing which fits in the hole properly but is otherwise the wrong part. From my searching this was the right part for pre '05 100 series but something got goofed up.

So I need the correct valve, retaining ring and hardware at a minimum. I'm not sure which year(s) are correct and I can't seem to find the parts diagram that applies. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I'm assuming the OEM tank has an integrated roll over valve, and it is inside/behind this small vent line to the right of the fill hose?

If I'm understanding this correctly the line that did connect there will now go to the roll over valve.

It ain’t called Long Range Japan!

You're right, it's manufactured by Long Range Automotive out of Australia, a metric system based country. Importing 5/16" hose from Mexico and returning it to North America must be significantly cheaper for them then just getting the correct metric hose.

Jesus are we picky about rubber hoses now.......THEY'RE JUST HOSES!!!

For $2k+ I expect more. Hoses are an easy one to get right and they dropped the ball. The originals look great after 17 years, can I trust the 5/16" Mexico hoses to give me the same result? Having to drop this tank back out to replace a hose would really piss me off.

i dont like dayco stuff, but gates is perfectly fine

Other than the roll over vent/valve, some slight differences in shape and the newer style fittings they look identical... which means the late model vent fittings will be an issue.
