LRA 40 Gallon aux tank

I agree. Really a joke LRA continues to use cheap components. I say this as a former customer who upgraded my tank pump, fittings, and hoses after the dinky stock pump failed twice. They’ve had plenty of time to improve on things. Glad there’s shops like Slee around that care about doing things right and think about what’s best for customers long term.
@brasskey Do you have links or part numbers to the items you used for the upgrades you made?

Eric sent me a list but it's for multiple tanks and someone will have to divine how many and adjust the list. Traveling so I'll add it here in a day or two.

Some suggestions:

Some people weld an additional plate on the bottom to act as a skid plate. New and empty and pre-fuel is the time to do this.

That tank in the picture you have has bed liner or something like that on it. They don't arrive like that.

Read the thread on over sizing the aux tank breather tube, you fill up will be faster.

The fuel pump it comes with takes about 45 minutes to refill from 1/4 to 3/4. The other one people suggest is about 2 times as fast, but it needs a relay.

I looped the breather tube from the main tank above the filler can so if you over fill it will not drown out the evap can. That way if you over fill it just runs back into the aux tank.

Bonus if you are electrical savvy.... you can hook the controller the LRA comes with to auto fill. I looked up how to do this but have not done it on mine. The way to do it is hook the black/white wire up to the OEM tank sending unit, and then you can set the program on the LRA switch to do this. This is not part of the LRA installation. (this is on my todo list)

^^This^^ 👍🏼

I had the bottom of my 24 armored (Beautifully!) as an early unit directly Grorg’s crew at Valley Hybrids (Georg and Ward Harris are the original importers).

Re the armor— I have hit/scraped EVERYTHING **BUT** my tank… so for the 24, I wouldn’t do that again. But I think the 40 gallon would definitely benefit if people are wheeling hard in rocks.

Personally, I would avoid bed liner, as it will scrap off on rock, and otherwise reduce cooling… But meh…

I sent the list to @CharlieS I have not asked Eric if I can post it and would prefer to have his OK prior to doing that. If we can work out the number of tanks the order is for then we can get a handle on what is needed for a single tank. If we get to that point we could organize a group purchase or at least have the correct part number and quantities for individuals to purchase.

Thank you.

I wonder if the 12.5, 24 and 40 gallon tanks all use the same plumbing? A picture someone posted earlier today makes me think the 12.5 may be different - I had to relocate the Charcoal Canister Filter to the inner fender, but that install pic (with upgraded hardware) looked like that part was either still in the stock location or removed.

I am wondering because if there are multiple configurations, it might mean there would be a different BOM for the different sized tanks.

I'm thinking swapping out the pump and adding a fuel water separator.

So I have a LRA 40 gallon aux fuel tank on the way for my 2017 LC 200, and I saw that companies like SLEE install theirs with a better fuel pump, better hoses and fittings as does Ed Martin Toyota on their installs. I contacted SLEE but they do not sell these upgrades as a kit.

Does anyone know any part numbers for the upgraded fuel pump, which I think is a Precision Pump from Oreilley's but there are many so not sure which part number would work.

I believe this is the breather filter in the Ed Martin Toyota video linked below:

If anyone has any suggestions for upgraded fuel pump, hoses, stainless steel fittings/clamps/plumbing kit and upgraded breather filter, I would greatly appreciate the suggestions. You can see what items I am speaking of here in Ed Martin Toyota video:

I am having this installed by a shop so if anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate it.
Thanks!

I trashed the stock stuff the tank came with and built my own setup. I used Holley Red pump and Holley filter. Both are field serviceable. For hoses and fittings I used all AN fittings and Fragola hose. Zero issues and the pump is fast.

Hi, I would have done the same when I had it installed but I did not know any part numbers to buy. Do you have part numbers for all the upgraded parts you used? I definitely want to upgrade the stock hoses, fittings and pump.

That filter you can adjust the flow, did you dial it down or is it running at 97 GPH / 1.6 gallons per minute?

I think I have some notes on all the fittings I used. It took some trial and error to get the exact fit I wanted. I have run this pump and filter style on other projects with great results. I just got back from 10K+ mile trip in Northern Canada and Alaska. Has worked flawlessly.

The regulator depends on which setup you get.

Example:

Amazon product ASIN B09QS1CZH4
Ahhh, you are referring to a regulator. The Red pump is a carburetor pump and doesn't require an external regulator. Max pressure is set at 7psi.

I am running -6 line from the tank to the filter. The filter is connected to the pump via a combination of -6AN fittings and then -6 line goes up to the fuel filler neck. Working like a champ!!

Cool .. I'm looking to upgrade the pump as one time I was hauling my off road trailer up a mountain and I was burning fuel faster than it was being replaced.

Did you ever find the invoice/listing of all your fittings used from Fragola? Nice looking install!

I am getting an LRA tank installed in about a month. What are the "mandatory" upgrades I should tell my installer about? Just a faster pump at a min?
