Hope everyone is having a nice Labor Day weekend.

I'm about to finally install my LRA 24 into my 80. Having tapped on this unit, the gauge steel seems a bit thin. My New Tank coming off the shrink wrapped pallet
already had a nice silver dollar sized 1/8" deep ding in on the bottom. First ding and it's never hit dirt, lol.

SO, who out there armored up their tanks? Would love to see some pictures in you got em. I've only seen one augmented tank with extra material to armor up (it was welded).
I was thinking of welding steel tabs to the tank where you can bolt on a sacrificial AL plate. Need to know if this is a good idea.

Before someone chimes in, you'll never hit it. I'll be the first to say, I've brought my 80 places most people would think twice on, it WILL get contact. Curious to hear people's experiences with getting hits.

I have one and thought about the same a few times...that said, the 24 gal does tuck up pretty far under the truck between the frame rails. I don't have any dings in mine, a few scrapes but no actual dents/gouges. Mine was installed by the PO probably 10 years ago, so not sure if quality was different then, but mine feels pretty solid.

I could see a way to add some armor, especially if you are running an aftermarket bumper, which it sounds like you probably are. I have an old school Kaymar on mine that hangs a little low compared to others, so that helps me a bit to drag on that first, which I have done for sure!

In the end, if you have an empty fresh tank, now's the time to get some extra protection on it if you plan to do any welding... :steer:

I’ve slammed down on mine twice hard and it dented it but no leaks or anything. It’s pretty beefy.
