In search of LPB tail light housings
Really only need left-hand side ( license plate light cut out ) would greatly appreciate right or left.

Ah poo. I see now. Sorry. Saw that 45 tag and didn't look close enough.

That’s an interesting suggestion! I’d measure my set of later model 45 tail light buckets to compare to the earlier set but unfortunately they’re in VA. Maybe someone else has a set they can measure and we can try to find an easier solution than cutting out the rear valence and replacing it with a later model on.

My thinking is NOT to change the valence but rather cut a portion of the 3 bulb unit out and turn it into a 2 bulb unit, but then use a 2 bulb lense and gasket. The wiring would also have to change, but the final product would have new bulb sockets as a result. Anything is possible…but it might not be very practical if it’s a ton of cutting and re-welding etc.

Exactly. That’s what I was suggesting but maybe I should rewrite my previous statement for clarity?

Also…I’m curious if anyone knows if the bulb sockets are replaceable with the newer tail light bulb sockets and wiring? I’m going to have the set I have dipped in Yellow Cadium (if allowed environmentally in CO?) or Yellow Zinc w/ Chromate.
 
I will post pictures of progress tomorrow when I am in the shop.

@phat73cruiser Oh sweet! Stoked to see how this works out!!!! What did you have the right tail light bucket dipped in?

Also…got any pics of the actual truck? Or is there a build thread going I somehow missed?

The right tail light bucket is original NOS Stout. Same as FJ45 LPB.Bought probably 20 years ago

Looks good! This will be a great potential alternative for those who can’t find the earlier housings.

I’ve been wondering if you could swap the new tail light housing bulb sockets to the old housings? Since you have both readily accessible maybe you can tell?

I’ve got a set of the old tail light buckets but the bulb sockets have definitely seen their better day. And if swapping them out is a possibility then I’m all for it!
 
Alright guys who’s got the beta to getting the bulb socket out of the taillight housing so I can get them blasted and plated?

What tool and/or method did you use? I’m asking before I brute strength it and potentially mess something up.

Does anyone definitively know what years the red/red lense was used vs the amber/red lense? I’ve searched but haven’t found anything definitively.

Do any other vendors besides $$$OR sell the gasket? $22 for shipping from CA to CO seems excessive to me?!?!? Which is 1/2 of the purchase price. Especially when it’s a low weight part (gaskets only) and only a couple states away.

I wonder how much more they’d sell if they’d be more reasonable with their shipping prices?!?! Off my soap box….
