Hey all. I did a dumb thing, I didn't check the oil for a while and
when I did I was @ 2 1/2 quarts low. Is this a huge issue. It's a '92
L/c with 103,000 miles. I haven't heard any ticking or anything and I
always watch the oil pressure, it was fine. I was also wondering if
the 1992 Cruisers had a low oil indicator light? If so it never came
on. I figure I'm o.k because the rig takes almost 8 quarts, 2 1/2
quarts would put put me at about what a normal engine uses. Anyways,
please let me know if you think I did any damage. :whoops:

You should be fine. As you noted, they hold about 8 qts and your oil pressure was normal. The 93-97 models have a low oil level dash lamp. I'm not sure about the 91-92 models.

Should be good to go. If I let either my 93 or my 94 go 1qt low I get an indicator light. May be worth while to have that checked out. Does the erl light come on during startup?

JAP are my son's initials too. As long as you never lost pressure, no harm done. But now change that oil and check it on a regular schedule-like weekly or every fill up. How long since your last change? That seems like a lot to be down.

Well, I had the oil pan gasket and the rear main replaced, it's still leaking. I'm bringing the truck back this week so they can do the job right. I have a feeling they didn't put enough oil in it in the first place. I think I chose the wrong garage. Thank's for the replies so far by the way.

I've done what a I should have done in the first place in regards to the idiot lights. I see no mention of a low oil indicator in the owners manual, only the oil pressure gauge which wont tell you the oil level. It basically says to check the dip stick if you want to know the oil level.
