Oh and finally got it registered and plated today. It's got a temp plate on it now but the personalized one will come in a few weeks. Looking at old photos from the build thread, I realized Mike that we had similar ideas on the plates. Stay tuned for that!

What are the pros and cons to a metal vs. rubber fuel line from the fuel pump to the carb? Rubber seems like an obvious choice given its convenience but wasnt sure if I was missing something. My fuel supply woes continue, as the old metal line continues to spew corroded bits into the carb and keeps blocking the screen and maybe junky up more. It has to go, then I'll see if I want to mess with cleaning the existing carb or spring for a new one.

I finally had a chance to replace the crusty pump to carb fuel line that's been dumping corrosion into the carb. The fuel system from tank to carb has now all been replaced so I'm hoping this is the end of my fuel supply woes.

She started right up with the new line and is running strong. I think I might have enough confidence in her to actually do an errand or two around town.

Nice cruiser, love the color too. What color is it, Spring Green?

So it sits...

Well my confidence in my fix was short lived. I think I replaced the fuel line on a Friday night and by Sunday evening I had to make the call of shame again to have the wife come and tow me home... having all the kids with me... as it was getting dark. :bang:

Best I can figure is that when we did a u-turn in a field we bounced around a bit and some rust flakes that had made their way into the carb got stirred up and clogged something. I've ordered an new Trollhole carb which I'm hoping will fix a number of issues. I really want this fuel supply issue done with so I can go on to other stuff and am kinda tired of having a giant paper weight in the garage.

On the bright side, while it was running I got a few new shots, so all was not lost. Enjoy...

Thanks Junkie. Other than looking nicer, what's the advantage of the metal line?

Steve, once you get it back, we'll have to do a trip around town.

Metal was OEM and its nice to keep these unmolested FJ40's looking clean and unhacked. what looks nice and neat to you may look like a hack job to someone else. rubber is an acceptable alternative, but i once had an old fuel line split open and cause an engine compartment fire:doh: torched my wiring harness and hood paint. I considered myself lucky since I happened to have a fire extinguisher handy. Otherwise it might have burned to the ground.

Thanks broth. There is something to be said for the neatness of OEM.

I love the work you're doing with operation olive. One day when I've got the time, space, and skills I hope to do the same. It's a great inspiration.

Do you have a list of what years were used to build the truck? Maybe there is a compatibility problem between the 66 chasis, 78 tank, 73 engine, 71 carb, 87 fuel pump, etc?

Get a fresh carb on it and roll.... I fought similar issues with my driver 40 and the new carb and lines renewed the cruiser instantly as well as my confidence to drive it long distances.

I recently got a 71' spring green 40 for a trail rig project, love your rig's color and I plan to stay the same color with my project.

Are the front springs flipped for wheelbase?

Interesting idea. But it has run so well when I get fuel in to the carb, I'm thinking it's got to be a clog. We'll see once we get the new carb.

Definitely hoping the carb will make it all better. And not sure on the flipped springs. Knowing that it was built for trail use, I could imagine that might have been the intent. Glad you've got your own Spring Green rig. I'm still just a little sad you didn't sell your regular driver to me ~ just a little. :D

And glad folks are liking the color. Once we get it running I'll have lots more pics.

Making a little progress...

Over the last few months I've been making slow progress on some minor issues while I wait for a Trollhole carb to arrive.

The bent tire carrier bits were replaced and the whole thing sent off to the sand blaster along with the license plate mount. I got all that back right as my order of Rust Bullet and Cruiser Corp rattle can Pewter arrived. This weekend's weather was perfect to try my hand at applying both. My new license plate now has a fancy new home, along with a new light assembly. I like it!

Next in line will be the tire carrier and side mirror.

I also used some Christmas money to order a complete gasket set for the engine and a new oil pan. Once I get the new carb on and it's running it'll head to a local mechanic to have that replaced. Can't wait to get it drivable. :steer:
