This popped up. Looks like a clean triple locked 80 with 162k.

is 15k just too much?

Based on my limited knowledge of Landcruisers (in the market for one) from this forum, I think that rig is worth between $7000.00 - $9000.00. Maintenance records will be critical. Correct me if i am wrong which I often am.

if it's clean, it's a California 80 with lockers and nicely set up. seems like a decent price, and a fraction of what an owner will put into it ; )

The 80 market is way overpriced currently. Pay whatever you feel comfortable with. Its pretty wild how fast these rigs shot up in asking prices.

Seems overpriced to me. I've never heard of the brand of new tires the guy put on it. You're going to want to replace the original stereo. From the wear on the driver's door switch plate it's spent a lot of its 22 years outside. Maybe $10k.

There's a locked LX450 with 50k more miles for $4k less asking in Venice. That 4k would get you an axle service and some off road tires, maybe help with some body armor. Lexus lx450 land cruiser diff locks

There's a locked LC in Glendale for $10k less. That $10k would go into axle service, engine rebuild and paint... with maybe some left over to build it for wheeling.

The one in Santa Clarita for $12.7k doesn't compare well. Good mileage and some freshening of the engine, but no lockers.

You could buy this (For sale 1997 lexus lx450/landcruiser ) out here and put the $5k you save into gas to get it home, bumpers and sliders, and an air locker for the rear axle. It's got a freshly rebuilt engine, and fresh axles and transfer case. That's a deal.

BringATrailer.com effect. Add in sellers like that character in Pennsylvania, and the occasional 80 out of some more reputable builders, and these things are wild.

I've seen some nice, local SoCal 80's that are under $10k, and are screaming deals. I'd wait for those to come back around.

Well said!

I mean, a triple locked CE with low miles isnt exactly cheap. Only 800 triple locked CE's were produced. If this one is as clean as it looks without any surprises then It'll sell close to 14.

If you're dead set on a CE with lockers then I would probably go take a look. If you just want a clean 80 and dont care about CE or lockers, then not worth it.

Tow hitch looks a bit salty and the wheel replacement leads me to believe the factory ones were pitted from a salty climate. Even if that truck lived its live in malibu, santa barbara, santa monica ...any beach city it'll get eaten up underneath by the salt air.

That ce came from up north california(pacifica) listed in craigslist for 8000 bought by that guy just to flip the car. Wonder if theres any issues in it

Makes perfect sense. Pacifica is right on the shore. probably runs great but underneath I bet has 20 years of salt. New seller is probably hoping he'll get someone that wont bother checking underneath.

I just texted him. I asked if the 80 series was still for sale and he texted back ''the what?"

then he said ''oh the fj80"

I also asked if it was the same CE from pacifica.

He replied "no, im here in southern california, different truck''

I said ''oh weird, same stickers on the back and everything. crazy coincidence"

then he came clean and said he bought it but now going a different route. he also said it drives like a rolex.

do not bother with this guy.

Sounds fishy if he isn't being upfront when asked. If theres no story, theres no reason to lie.

Realistically a 80 series cruiser with lockers is worth 10-20k now. I believe the days of bargain 80's is gone due to the new popularity and knowledge of how rare an unmolested locked 80 is to find.

On one had there was the green locked 80 in Tahoe that needed a new interior, paint, and deferred maintenance that sold for 10k

On the other there's unicorn 50k miles locked 80's selling for 45-55k

I purchased a 96 black locked two owner with 160k miles for 13.5k. I had to go three states over, however it had a great maintenance history and HG done already.

We’re having the same discussion about 100’s. It sometimes boils down to finding a first or second (or even third) owner that isn’t in the enthusiast game like us, or some flippers/dealers looking to cash in. Then you’ll find the killer deal.

There was a recent 80 in SoCal that was very well built. Needed some minor things here and there, and would benefit from a new bumper. Was well maintained mechanically, and drove impeccably. Guy was asking $7,800. Couldn’t give it away. I’m still trying to get back in touch with him because I might need to add it to my collection.

Deals are out there if you look. Don’t settle for $15k-$20+ when it’s not worth it or there’s missing pieces unless you 1) are independently wealthy, or 2) have to have that specific ride.
