I had the tire shop use generic TPMS on these tires and now have the TPMS light on the dash. Does anyone know if I need the Techstream to reset that TPMS warning light or is there a recommended OBD plug in reader that can do that? I also have a spare key I need to reprogram so if posssible, having one piece of OBD hardware/software kit to do that would be ideal. I've checked the Techstream thread(s) on this site and it is byzantine and inconclusive. Recommendations?

I use an Autel TPMS reader/programmer to get the TPMS IDs and to put them into the ECU. I use it each time I rotate the tires so in my aftermarket tire pressure display tire 1 is always front left, etc.

I also made a second key. I used techstream for that. Supposedly there is a way to get techstream to set TPMS IDs but you need to know them to do that. You can read them off the sticker if they're out of the tire but once they are installed you need a TPMS reader.

I believe techstream can mod the tpms sensors, but only specific versions of the cable will allow it with firmware 2.0.4+ possibly.

My tire shop had no problems syncing their generic sensors to my rig with whatever scan tool they use. I'm highly doubtful it's techstream as they are a small independent shop that works on everything. I'd probably take it back to the shop and ask that they fix it.

They are a bit of a drive away and did indeed offer to reprogram for free but I would be heading to them to queue ~every 6 months. I'd rather be able to do it on my own because I hope to only need a tire shop visit every 4-5 years for new rubber. This Autel rig is not cheap but seems to do it all: Autel MK906Pro-TS

The sensors should need to be reprogrammed once in their lifetime and thats it. No periodic reprogramming is required once they are synced with the rig.

No idea if they are correct but my local dealer said I will need to reprogram whenever I swap between my winter and summer wheel/tire sets.

I read the IDs from the sensors and put them into the car (2017). You can do that with the same tires after rotation, or a different set of tires. The sensors keep the same IDs, the car gets updated.

Some TPMS sensors can be reprogrammed, some can't. The tool to read the IDs from the sensor and program the car is a bit easier to find than the one to program the TPMS units. Also I think techstream can program the car if you have the IDs from the sensors.

The G4X470 (and apparently the 460 too) have a button at the bottom of the dash that allows 2 sets of TPMS sensors to be used for that purpose . As long as the TMPSs in both sets are synced, you'd just press the button after putting on your winter tires, and your system should auto-recognize the 2nd set of tires with no other action required.
