I think it is a contact type cement, so a contact cement remover should work.

On my 45 there was much less area and I just sanded it off. I didn't do a perfect job of it though.

It might also be worth the effort to get one of those nylon type wheels that are used to remove pin striping and decals from body sheet metal.

Those 3M wheels are expensive, but in this application it would probably work very well. Were you able to remove your headliner without tearing it?

Those might not be too bad. It would help if they offered a picture, though.

The nylon wheel ain't worth a damn on that stuff, at least on mine. I have yet to find something that'll get it off; best I've done yet is a orbital sander. Haven't done much yet though, worried about screwing up the paint in the roof(it gets friggin hot!)

Thanks! I'd forgotten all about that.

Hand held torch and a scraper. I couldn't find anything, on my 55, that would cut that glue.

Is it still tacky or completely dried? If tacky, I would try using 3M adhesive remover. Failing that, I'd make sure I was in a ventilated area, get me some goggles, thick rubber gloves, a long sleeve shirt, and most importantly a respirator, and brush on some Aircraft brand chemical paint stripper. If nothing else works, I would think that would while not effecting your outer roof's paint.

But, I would only use that as a last resort.

ETA: Sorry, I just remembered you had a picture on another thread. I don't think chemical paint stripper would work on that. It *looks* like you need a heatgun. Just be careful and use it on a low setting to avoid screwing up your paint.

Heat gun ain't gonna work either, if you're gonna use heat you'll have to do as scrap said and use a torch.
I tell ya what, I need to find out what kind of glue that was-----it's some badass stuff!

If you're going to re-insulate the roof does getting it all off really matter? If you're not going to re-insulate, why? IMHO & IME that would be a big mistake.

x2

If you're replacing the headliner, just scrape the worst of it off and glue on a replacement. I used 1" fiberglass sourced from the local hardware store on top of Second Skin.

Without insulation and a headliner your truck will be EXTREMELY noisy. If you go this route, at least spray on rubberized sound deadening. It looks like bedliner and would decently cover the old glue if you had scraped off the remaining jute threads.

Try paint stripper that contains methylene chloride (also called dichloromethane). If that doesn't work go to Mexico or Eastern Europe and buy carbon tetrachloride and diethyl ether. A combination of those and acetone should work. Application will be easier if you flip your truck over.

Looking at the solution done at https://forum.ih8mud.com/showpost.php?p=8641990&postcount=8

with the Lizard skin and then Mastaliner, it has thermo AND sound proofing along with the Mastaliner strength.

Still pondering, but would like to pull that glue off to begin with.

Lots of options.....yeah

Laugh now, but I bet you will be useing some kind of heat on it, if you really want it all off.

I spent many hours with a s****er.

it was a very dry laugh

Norsk,

That is my 55 that you posted. In order for me to paint the Zero Rust, etc. I had to heat the glue then scrape. It turned out pretty nice.

I wouldn't want any glue remains, not sure of the long term effects with the different coats.
