I'm looking at roof racks right now as we'll be doing quite a bit of long drives/camping this year. I have 3 kids and another on the way, so I won't be able to put much gear inside the truck. As such, I need to get a roof rack.

Any suggestions on brand?
Any issues with having the rack extend over the sunroof?
Any problems with the rack and the rear spoiler?

Some of the larger items that we'll be packing up there:
  • Ice chest
  • Tent bag
  • Water containers
  • Gas cans
  • Folding chairs / table
  • Camp stove / propane

TIA

I had a Front Runner rack on my 100 and really liked it. It was low profile and lightweight. You can mount all sorts of stuff to it due to the channels on the cross bars. The low profile also gives you the option of running one of those Yakima/Thule boxes for all the kid's stuff.

Another option is to use a hitch rack.

Consider swing out luggage racks

I have the same issue.. Except I have 5 kids. The last camping trip to Colorado in the 100 we loaded the roof rack with just about everything... So full. I have 2.5" OME lift and the body roll was terrible. White knuckles up the million dollar highway at very low speeds.

I went to bump it offload and had custom luggage racks built on a swing out bumper. I searched high and low for containers to put the luggage in and found this on sportsmanship guide, the biggest surplus medical chest they carry. The chest is hard to use due to opening in the middle instead of the top, but I plan to modify it for easier use.

Downside is a heavy rear bumper made the front too light and I had to buy a TJM front bumper to balance it out. The front tires would skid easily on dry pavement under heavy braking.

The end result is we can carry most of what we need down low including a super big cooler and keep the center of gravity low, even though truck is heavier.
