on the road again....
Looks like I'm going to have to break down and get some drawers. I was hoping to avoid it. I can see so many places storage could be created. But it seems the most cost effective for me anyway. I don't have time to create new storage places....or even build the drawers.

I saw a thread a while back with several drawer setups...some that were really inexpensive.
Haven't been able to find that thread. Anybody know a source for inexpensive drawers or remember the thread???

Thanks.....
Jim

Do you have any friends that are hobbyist woodworkers? The least expensive drawers I've seen are handmade.

actually I only wanted cheap ones because I suspect I'll toss them. I'm more concerned with weight. Seems like everything we do adds so much weight. Duel batteries, heavy bumpers, winches...and on and on. I'm trying to do this build with an eye to weight.

I have 12 houses being built now so I have all kinds of woodworkers and metalworkers around . The drawers Slee sells are not expensive...I just need to ask Christo what the weight is. He was trying to convince me to get some a couple of days ago. But I want to get my 2nd and 3rd row seats out first and then look at possibilities. I think I can create a better storage solution along the sides and above. If not then I may have one of my workers do an aluminum setup.

Once you subtract the weight of the third row from the weight of the drawers, the weight isn't that bad with ARB (or other) drawers.
Personally, I find drawers to be non-negotiable, essential equipment. Keeps heavy, dangerous-in-an-accident items secure, at as low a center of gravity as possible...and creates not only a sleeping surface with the 2nd row, but also a MUCH wider (no wheel well intrusion), flat surface. Even if I didn't wheel or carry lots of gear? I'd still have drawers in any Cruiser. They are just so incredibly useful.

I agree, can't wait to get a set. I'm doing a big renovation project at our camp and I'm sick of my tools and other crap rolling around back there. I just wish I could also yank out my 2nd row seats, the way they tumble forward is terrible.

I would think that paying someone to build you a set would cost about the same as the ARBs or other ones that are ready to install and you know they work well.

Why can't you pull out the 2nd row? Some folks around here have done it.

Occasionally we have passengers. And I'm not sure I'd feel safe having the dogs back there without seats. They are always buckled in when they go anywhere in the car.

yeah...good points Mark..... Figured you would have something to say that made good sense :)) I've been slowly talking myself into it. I miss the days when I could pack and extra T shirt and my toothbrush and go surfing for weeks. :)) Guess I''ll have Christo add some to my order.....which is growing by the day.
Thanks for the input

If you have carpenters and cabinetmakers available what they make will be much nicer, can be made lighter, and to better utilize the space than the one-size-fits-most ARB solution.

You could build a plywood platform tall enough to slide 4-6 Front Runner Wolf Packs into. Not quite as handy as drawers, but close, and much cheaper and lighter.
