Brittan and I looked at this 80 on Friday, not a bad truck, but not what he is looking for. It has had a light hit in the right rear, OK repair job, needs the flair properly reattached. It has a damage multiplier that has been hit and bent the front bumper. The interior is dirty and has a hole in the drivers seat.

It needs the typical PM brought up to spec, the cooling system needs a good flush, the fan clutch is original and the axles have never been serviced, but are not puking. We didn't test the lockers. Slight typical seep from the rear main seal and/or pan arch and from the valve cover. Looks good overall on the mechanical side.

It has 285 BFG AT's, one is almost new and the rest 80% worn, if the plan was to run 285s the one is a good spare. The seller doesn't appear to be hiding anything, he said that it had been in Chicago for a short time, we couldn't find any significant rust. We didn't drive it, the seller said that it has a tire out of balance and/or round causing a vibration, other than that it drives well and has been reliable. With a little work and PM would make a good truck and I heard some lower $ numbers tossed around, so it could probably be bought for less than asking price.

If you want more info PM or call.

Sorry the link is "this 80" in the first line of my 80 post, the 60 is "this". The links don't show well with the background that we have, I will PM Woody to see if that can be improved.

He claimed he had to many cars...didn't hear if he was a real estate agent...

I'm assuming from your post it has the factory electric lockers, right?

Can anyone tell me if you can even find an FJ80 with a manual trans? I'm not a fan of autos and am debating between an FJ80, 4Runner or similar. I'd consider an auto, but would rather have a manual if possible.

Thanks,
Sean

Yes on factory lockers. I'm no expert but I don't think the LC came with the manual option. At least I've never seen one.

I have always had and prefered manual wheelers, after wheeling the auto 80 I will probably never have another manual wheeler. Try it you may like it!:D

I was the same way- swore by the stick. Still love it for daily driving and performance driving, but 'wheeling is best done with an auto. I never thought I'd convert, but I did.

I have tried them.....and I'd completely agree that autos are better for wheeling.......unless you have insanely low gearing like I've had on my last two vehicles (227:1 and 265:1). If you're geared that low, the auto really holds very little advantage in terms of control and you have the ability to pick what gear you start out in, less heat, less complexity and generally, better reliability. The only drawback then is if your engine doesn't have enough ballz to get to the top of a climb, but then you just have to know the vehicle, its powercurve and how to up shift effectively (assuming your able to in a given situation).

Correct, no manual tranny from the factory for this great country.

Thanks for the info.....unless Marlin has an option for connecting a crawl box to an FJ auto then, I probably won't consider an 80.

Anyone know offhand if there's any kind of crawl box that will hook up to an 80's auto trans?

Thanks for the info.

Sean
