OME 865 Springs - $75.00 delivered
Crabked the stock T bars - $ 0.00
4 OME shocks - $ 150.00 picked up
rear 30MM spring spacers - 40.00(delivered)

Lift, look and the ride quality on & offroad = Priceless

These kind of deals are every where in mud and craigslist...you just have to wait for the right moment..

"Cheap" lift will be to just crank the t-bars and put bigger tires on...

Personally, I'd do it right with an OME and Slee's Diff Drop.

My .02...

I think I am going to go the route of the OME shocks, springs, TBar crank, and do the diff drop mod Shotts posted and see how that turns out for now. I'm happy with that price range. I can do the aftermarket bars and slee's diff drop if it doesn't work out after checking out that setup. My buddy has an 80 with OME shocks and is telling me they're the only way to go.

They're the only way to go in that price range. And they actually work better IMO than OEM on the street.

The OME 865/860 springs (depending on model year) are the medium duty spring package. Which according to information provided above have a decent ride while allowing a higher payload. Which is desperately needed IMO.

My question is this. How much lift do the OME 865/860 springs provide?

I have seen some post that they use a 30mm spacer as well. For those who are interested in achieving greater altitude (reason for this thread) will they be disappointed without the spacer?

Personally I just want greater payload, the lift it seems is the only way to achieve this in the U.S. If my research is incorrect please let me know.

Just get airbags then.

I have 866's. I love them to death ( well. Maybe not to death). The ride is firm. But not jarring. My truck is pretty much stripped. No spare, running boards, flares, engine cover, 3rd row. My mother fell asleep In The back seats coming home the other night on a concrete highway. Going over the expansion gaps at 80, I was sure she would wake up and be pissed. Let alone her barely being able to get into it. So being stripped of all bolted on parts. And still passing the "mothers" test. I'd say the 866's are a good chioce.

You can read rhe very long thread I created last year titles "cheap lift".

Explained the ups and downs of a lift like the one your talking about and The lift I am running. ( still believe I'm the only one with this current setup).

K have no regrets on skipping the tbars or shocks and diff drop. Becuase I'm not leaking grease ( that sounds wrong), and very happy with the looks and benefits of being raised 2". While maintaining "close" to factory ride.

Doing it RIGHT depends on how one's vehicle is equipped. This user will not add the weight of a aftermarket bumper.

In that case, retaining stock T-bars IS the right way. The front end will be supported AND articulate better on the trail than stiffer OME T-bars will.

As for diff drop? Yes, a DD is the right way to go though it can wait at 2" up if somebody's watching their dime.

John, I already said that.

An I took johns advice with the stock tbars and springs ( I went 866 instead of 865's) and am very happy.

I need ome tbars soon. I have something heavy coming Monday :)

I know. Can't beleive it's been a year.FWIW, Still haven't done a diff drop. And hose clamp still holding strong.

While we're talking about affordable lifts...

At a minimum, what has to be unbolted/removed to simply swap out the rear springs? Lower shock bolt? Panhard bar? Sway bar? I plan to swap in 865's for the OEM springs and retain the OEM shocks.

Thanks.

Used diff housing as jacking piont.

Placed Jack stands under frame.
Removed tires.
Lowered axle SLOWLY.
Unbolted the bottom shock mount.
Diff breather.
And sway bar.

Watch the brake lines. As it does pull them slightly.

The panhard didn't need to be removed.

The OME springs are shorter. So it's easier to put them in the get your old ones out.

Search " cheap lift ". Many many many many long posts on how to do this.
