Looking for a couple guns.

Eric and the rest, thanks for the positive replies. I always have to check myself when this topic comes up, it can be very volatile to many. We have lost close (at least I thought so) friends due to this topic and finding out there are firearms in my house (in a very expensive safe I might add).

Eric, anytime, I miss shooting matches. I shot 3-4 matches a month for over 7 years and haven't done it as much the past few. I prefer IPSC/USPSA although an occasional IDPA match is ok. I prefer matches where someone can't take points away because they thought you didn't use your cover appropriately.

Sir Walter hosts a match the first Sat every month, anytime you want to come see what its all about, it would be a good day for sure...

Sounds awesome. I am dying to get involved and look for an excuse to pick up a G35. lol

I have 2 12ga shotguns - not looking to sell though. One's a Winchester pump and the other is my baby - benelli m-1 field. I have a few rifles and if anyone wants to abuse their shoulder I will bring my 300win mag. I dare anyone to shoot it 5 times :)

 R

I will do it! I use to shoot my buddys 338 winmag it felt wonderful. Need a some disntance to shoot it

I'm also in the market for a home defense shotgun at some point. Might have to wait a little bit to convince the wife. She was o.k. with my first purchase back in May (Glock 17), but was a little surprised when I brought home a Ruger LCP from a gun show back in November. Personally, I think a new gun every 6 months isn't all that bad. :)

"Shotgun for home defense"... One thing many people don't consider is the layout of the home they have. Purchasing a standard hunting shotgun is often a mistake for use inside the home due to the size of the weapon. I have about 3000 sq ft of house, but it's a ranch with a basement which means a long narrow hallway, a staircase, and many rooms. While the sound of a 12ga slide racking is quite intimidating, a motivated assailant might close the distance between you before you can bring the weapon into play due to the difficulty of maneuvering a 36" long piece of wood and steel in the confines of your home. It'll become a club once they get on you if you are able to retain it. Forget moving around a corner. I like my Remington 870 but it's not my "honey, go see what that noise was" gun of choice. Yes, the sight and sound of it will scare off anybody who values their own life more than your stuff but you never know if that is the kind of intruder you'll encounter.

Keep in mind that the important thing isn't to chase somebody through your house, but we plan and prepare for the worst so that we'll have the upper hand if it happens.

Short barrels are the way to go if you must and have the room to get around. Handguns might make more sense for some, though.

I'm not a cop, military or competition shooter. I've been a shooter and avid learner for a long time. Just my thoughts, for what it's worth. Enjoy whatever you get - you can never have too many.

This what I use for home defense! It also helps with remodeling if you need to remove a wall!

John's exactly right here. That why if I recommend an 870 or similar, purchasing a second shorter barrel is a must. If not, you've just given the intruder a handle to grab it they are laying in wait for you.

Another thing to consider the the racking theory. Some folks believe in the intimidation factor which is 100% true. I would counter with this. If the intruder is armed, truly prepared and motivated then you've just let him know exactly where you are and what kind of threat you pose. the same applies to laser sights...I don't care for the ones that are always on personally. I like the ones that require pressure to activate. you can hold it loosely and turn it on when the need arises.

Another great point is the layout of the house and what is in it. If you have kids in the house you might want to make sure your home protection gun cannot shoot through walls. just my $0.02 though

Man, I started an awesome thread!

yup and spawned a new gun thread as well....Ryan you are my inspiration man...sniff sniff

And now I get to shoot some of adams guns before I buy one from him... HAHA

Adam, PM me prices so I know how much cash to bring to the feb meet!

Just get The Judge, best of both worlds:grinpimp:

Seriously, all my long guns are in the safe. I keep a 3" S&W Model 60 with reduced velocity .38 HPs in the nightstand lockbox. Sometimes I throw the Glock 27 in there also. Handgubs wil be the easiest to store discretely and be readily available.

I do have a Benelli M1 Super90 which would be fine for home defense, Rem 870s and the Mossberg 590s, anything with an 18.5" barrell would be good for close quarters. And for punching thru walls, I have a few boxes of the Ranger L.E.O. reduced velocity 000 buck, which is really nice ammo.

John - Good advice. Whatever shotgun I eventually choose will most likely end up being as short as legally allowed once I get done with it.

All this talk abou guns. Is geing me excited! I may buy another sho gun this weekend!

Alex u wanna go to gun show?

Maybe, I have a huge hole to carve into the tailgate of the Hundy to install my Wagon Gear lid into my tailgate and I have to break down the axles on the troopie to get the thirds dropped so I can get them to Darin one of these years:grinpimp: Also, I may knock out the front suspension, TRE and TRs on the troopie also if I have the time.

Just don't fall for one of the Mossbergs or others without a shoulder stock. They're fun to blast but not what you want to try to control when stressed.

And just wait till you start to research the best loads... Everybody's got an opinion, imagine that!

One thing I've learned is that guns are like guitars - some are poorly made, some are pieces of art, prices and values are two totally different things, we always want the ones we don't have but see no reason to sell the old ones, and any one of them in the hands of a pro is a dangerous thing. Just remember that opinions are like assholes... Use it before you buy it and let your experience guide your next choice.
