Ok, I did a bunch of searching over on the tool forum on PBB, but wanted to get your guys opinions. From reading over there I came to the following conclusions on what I need for a decent compressor:

- Decent sized tank for longer duty cycle
- around 9-10 SCFM @ 90psi
- Oil lubed

I have $250 in sears gift cards, so it's look like Craftsman is getting the nod if I can find a suitable compressor.

My uses will include general wrenching and fabrication, so impact wrench, ratchets, die grinder, etc.

This is the compressor I think I've settled on. What do you guys think?

I don't want to buy this and then have to replace it in a few years, so if I have to spend the $250 on other tools and then wait another 6 months to a year to be able to spend that money on another brand, I will. BTW, I didn't really wanna spend more than 4-500, so I'm stretching a little to get this one, so I need to stay around that budget.

Thanks for your input.

I have a similiar compressor and use it the same as you describe. My die grinder works okay but not great. If I had $300 extra dollars, I would have gone for a 2-stage compressor. You might be able to get a used 2-stage for your $500 budget.

One mention though, check to see if it is an all cast iron pump or just cast iron cylinder sleeves (liners). Of course, the former is better.

The one at Sears that you mentioned is fine. From your post, you won't exceed the duty cycle of the compressor. I have a similar compressor that I bought at Home Depot. It easily runs my motorcycle lift, paint gun, die grinder, or air ratchet.

Napa makes a great one too ,, a nitro, check that out, i have one and it is great.. i think it was around 500 also ...

CHEERS ...
