I have a RHD 91 Toyota Land Cruiser Proda with a 2L TE engine. the engine was rebuilt by the last owner to solve head problems, now it has problems with the Crank. Does anyown know where i could get a 3L engine for a right hand drive in Canada or the US

i'm sorry to say but the 3L also has head problems.
I would say look at getting a 3B, 13B-T, a 1HZ or even a 1HD-T
there are plenty of others out there...

e...

Since when?
As with all the L engines, they never had as problem till they put a turbo on them. They were not quick but they went the distance.

The crank problems can crop up from all kinds of things, but typically it can be from using the wrong head gasket.

I have a bottom end here if you want one. But you should first see how bad yours is, they can be put back together with a grind of the journals and some new bearings if there is not too much damage.

Be sure to have the head gasket clearance checked before the head goes on, or just use the F grade (thickest) head gasket and be done with it.

either do a cheap and quick rebuild or swap to a completely different (not L series) engine.

you can get a donor engine from Japan but the cost of the yen and the poor canadian dollar makes that an expensive option for a KZ

"L"s series lacks power :(

true my friend .. but my experience in using L engine is different in Sabah, Malaysia..

some of us here prefer using 5L engine turboed rather than 1KZTe .. its because of the 1KZ head problem ..

even using CT20 or CT26 turbo produce enough support for us to get the preferred torque ..

of course the best option are 13BT, 14BT and 15BT or 1HDT.. but the problem is weight of the engine .. suzukis here which competed and win the previous year competition in Borneo safari 4x4 challenge prefer 5L engine plus turbo ..

Looking for 2L or 3L engine

My mechanic pulled my engine appart and the problem was a bearing on one of the connecting rods. The bearing went and eventually ground down to dust, there was nothing ther. When the took the oil pan off there where metal filings in the pan.

The crank shaft and 1 connecting rod are shot and we are looking at a oil pump as well asuming that the filings got into it. I have priced the parts as well as replacement engines and it would be cheaper and less labour to drop a repalcement engine in.

I am looking for a 2L TE for a RHD, the old engine had the head replaced with a 3L and a high volume water pump that I would swap over to the replacement engine.

Does anyone have a 2L or 3L engine, it would have to fit into a Right Hand Drive 1991 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. I am in New Brunswick, Canada.

try Dan at 4wheel auto. he has my old LJ78 and the head went for the second time but the bottom end is tight.

Do use the 5L from Dyna ? The Hiluxes in australia are all 5LE I think

i can't beleive Rosco didn't pick up on the line about the KZ having head problems...WOW!

Just a note on doing a 3L swap into the 2LTE Prado: the swap is not as cheap or cost effective as you might want to believe. We have done this conversion before, and there are many little things that need to get sorted out that eat up many, many labour hours and will run the bill way up beyond what you might ever imagine.

Contrary to popular belief, there are many parts that just don't work well in the conversion. The blocks are not quite the same and many parts will have to be removed from the 2LTE and installed on the 3L.

You will lose a few functions as well: the tach will no longer work, and the transmission will not shift properly (no electronic feedback unless you take hours of time to work out how to install the TPS etc.).

There's more, but I don't have time to detail it.
