Wow, thanks everyone for your comments, they are super helpful. I think that looking at a cheaper option that is more stock and doing things at my pace/cost is the route to go. Also, not getting a car that has been possibly beat up.
I am going to go look at this gx today. I understand that the market is crazy right now, but with two dogs and a 1 year old we need more room and I am trading in a car that is basically straight across as far as money goes.

I hate to ask again, but anything to look for when I check this car out/does it seem like a good option on paper? Thanks again for all the replies, this new guy really appreciates all of the thoughtful responses.

If you're like my family, we keep our vehicles a looong time. So take your time, find what you want, and as others have said on this forum, even if it's a wee bit pricy, buy once, cry once, but get what you want.
 
The thing about new being close to used is that you will have to wait 6 months to a year to get a new one. You arent walking into a dealership and buying new that day.

There are dozens of brand new GX460's on dealer lots today within a 30 mile radius of where I live.

You're always better off selling your car to a private party, and buying from one for that matter. Always have them leave the price line blank. If total cost is a concern you should be nowhere near a dealership.

In the state of CA you are only on the hook for 7.75% tax new or used regardless of purchase point. There are a few counties such as Los Angeles and the Bay area that have a county tax but they are easy enough to avoid.

And it can be used as a bargaining tool to get the total cost of vehicle down when negotiating OTD cost. You simply reduce the price of the vehicle (before taxes) to reflect the increased tax as if it was not there.
