So I’m looking around for a second 100 to use as a daily driver. I’ve found a 2005 with 270k miles On it. I plugged the vin into the Toyota owners site and the service records blew me away. Religious service done every 5k since day one. Timing belt service done on schedule, bearing repack on schedule, fluids changed on schedule, steering rack replaced at 220k, cv axles replaced when needed, etc. Exterior looks great, interior is nice.

Am I crazy for thinking about this as a daily driver? It’s a southern truck that’s never been north so no rust. All service done by southern Toyota dealers. What’s a fair price I could expect to pay for this? Thanks for any advice!

Service is the key. I wouldn't care about mileage if the rig was maintained, not abused and had little rust. These are 500k+ vehicles with basic maintenance. 270k is just broken in.

I bought a very similar LX for my wife, '01 275k miles and serviced its whole life at Lexus dealership with similar records to the one you found. She's been DD it for a year now. Only issue we had was one of the coil packs went out, so I replaced with a $70 Denso replacement. I wouldn't hesitate to buy if it's a good deal.

FYI I paid $5500 for my wife's '01 LX.

Maintenance over mileage for me. Good professional quality PM on these cruisers and watch them go. I was freaked when I bought mine north of 250k and I am about to roll 325k... no issues other than normal maintenance. Go for it. Good news is, most folks think the car is used up due to the miles. I say beat them up on price... don't be nice :bounce: :)

Yeah, I feel like if I look at it and it checks out it will be hard to get burnt considering all of th maintenance is up to date and done by Toyota. I know as time goes on things will fail, and I know parts will need to be replaced, but I have the tools and skill to do most things myself. Plus I have my other 100 to drive when I’m doing the repairs.

I still want to eventually move to a 200 but I just can’t see it right now when nice 100s can be had for such a good price. I drive about 20k a year and would hope to get 5 years out of it. I don’t feel like that’s a stretch. I figure if I find a nice 200 along the way I can sell the 100 without losing much if anything.

It makes sense to me :meh:.

Why do you need 2 to daily drive?
My current 100 is taking the place of my 80 as my trail rig. It’s gotten heavy as I’ve built it and I’m about to add front and rear bumpers making it even heavier. It’s nice to be able to jump in it and hit the woods on the weekend but not so much driving back and forth to work everyday. This is my current setup plus it has drawers and fridge in the back:

Nice truck, I would go for it before someone else buys it, the decision might be out of your control if you wait. I wish I could daily drive mine but fuel prices in the Uk are extortionate so my daily drive is a corolla. Now that is the most reliable and maintanence free car ever built from my experience. I do 20-30k a year aswell.

Here are the pics of undercarriage:

Looks like there could be some oil on the transmission crossmember/mount. All the fluids have been changed regularly though. Maybe just spillage/residue? Does that look normal? I’m going to look at it this afternoon.

That frame is gorgeous. Very clean. Buy it....

i have an 07 with 275k miles. Ive had an AC issue since I owned it. Wife daily drives it, and we put 18k miles on it in year one. IMO, the AC is probably at end of life, and is expensive to fix. otherwise, they are great vehicles...

Dude just go buy it , that's a clean well maintained rig. Getting harder to find

How much $ for a undercarriage that clean?

Well I went and looked at it and it took all of about 30 seconds to realize it wasn't for me. The seller told me before i drove up at the interior and body was in excellent condition. I was not. it was super rough. The body had been side-swiped and there were dents and white paint streaks down both sides. The paint was coming off of the rear lift gate pretty bad. The front bumper cover almost fell off when I braced my hand on it to look underneath. Part of the roof rack was broken and missing.
I understand it was a 12 year old vehicle with high miles but the photos on the listing make it seem perfect. Hell, the seller even said it was perfect. Anyone looking at the listing please know the photos are not a accurate representation of what it actually is. I figure after looking it would probably be worth 5k and the guy might have took that, but it wasn't what i was looking for. Oh, and im pretty sure it was at what i would call a "chop shop" going by all of the BMWs in the open in all states of body repair and cannibalization going on behind the fence at this place.

2005 Toyota Land Cruiser

Wow, are you sure that's the same truck. He should change careers to photographer.
Yeah, it was very disappointing. My wife and I made the 8 hour round trip with cash in hand ready to buy. I told her I was tempering my expectations because it had so many miles, but I NEVER expected what I ended up seeing.

It worked out though. I love my new to me 2006 Classic Silver Metalic cruiser!

Thanks for sharing this story.
It's just so disappointing to do al the research that indicates a 'go' only to find the truck is not for you
I did the same
Thing with a Lexus Hybrid a couple years ago... it was mint, but Heavily smoked in. Something the pics didn't indicate.
