I’ll be honest, I’m relatively new to the 200 series platform. I know the 100 in and out in addition to my 2007 4R V8 with 200k.

There is a 2010 LX at the local Toyota dealer with 90k on it for $34k.

What specific maintenance items should I be on the lookout for? It’s a one owner Alaska vehicle (no salt so no rust). How does the hydraulic suspension hold up with that many miles?

I’d be buying it for my wife as I want her in something bigger and safer. Mostly local roads and highways but nearly 12k miles a year. I’ll be honest, it will probably be the family hauler with my 4Runner only seeing 5k miles a year.

Seems like a good price with most of the depreciation already taken place.

I’m also toying with a new 2018 4Runner although I’ve never been wild about the V6. Also considering, gasp, leasing a Tahoe.

I’ve looked at late model 100s and GX470s (2006-2009) but they seem to hold a premium. For $15k more I can be in a 200....

Any help would be appreciated.....!!

Check maintenance records and be prepared to replace Radiator, Water Pump and Starter at some point in the near future. You'll also need to bleed the AHC most likely. It's a $2-3k hit in parts/labor (at least) but should get you another 100k miles no prob. Check under dash for any moisture, leaking aftermarket windshield could lead to electrical issues that total the vehicle, especially in Alaska with all your rain and snow.

IMO the +$15k is way worth it over the older 100s/GX that have artificially inflated values. And compared to a new 4R, or especially a new Chevy product you'll be taking a much bigger depreciation hit on those than you would this one.

Check here and in the Classifieds/200/570 section to see what others are paying: For Sale - Most recent 200 Series purchase prices

I have a 2008 LX 570. 190,000 miles, haul construction materials, drive from Louisiana to Austin and Florida couple times a year. I keep it in the garage at night but it's in the sun during e day, kids drove it. Husband drove it like he stole it. Most maintenance done at dealership but couple oilchanges at local mechanic. Have the problem with differential light coming on occasionally. Doesn't cause me trouble. My driver seat is finally showing some wear. I still love this vehicle. The only other car I've had that compares with this ride was a BENTLEY. I will keep it NEIL it stops rolling.

Great point! When looking at the cost of a vehicle, purchase price tends to be the primary consideration. The often ignored lifecycle cost, is arguable more important in some respects, with depreciation representing the largest single variable in true vehicle cost.

This is my first Lexus. Purchased in 2008 and love it. My husband thinks I should get a new one. He likes changing cars every 2 years and I've had this one for 10 years. I like the fact that there's no stress to baby a car you've had so long and is so well broken in. Does anyone have any examples or ideas of how long or how many miles I can expect this car to last? Does anyone know what year their next design will be? I'm trying to decide weighing the pros and cons of buying a new one.

How many miles on your Lexus?

There's a link somewhere on this forum. Toyota designed the LC/LX to last 250k-300k miles in extreme weather. As good as it gets durability wise.

I bet you can go another 190,000 miles easy...
I'd be thrilled with 100,000 more miles but if can get 190,000 I'll start feeling guilty. I don't put as many miles as I used to so that means an extra 6 or 7 years. Yeah! I was hoping to be able to keep it another 3 years so by this estimate I definitely don't have to buy another one right now!

Per Toyota chief Engineer these vehicles are engineered to last 25 years in a 3rd world country. If maintenance by the book drive train should be good for over 500k miles +. There is a Tundra that did over 1000000 miles. Yes along the way you will have to replace water pumps, starters, etc.

I've kept up pretty well with oil changes, brakes, tires, fluid flushes, and filters, replaced front shock assembly, recent fuel injection cleaning, replaced ahcpump motor and fusible link, new water pump, serviced rear differential,(these last larger items were done in the last 40000 miles and done before it could do any damage that would get costly. A/c blower motor changed at 100,000 miles. I also changed out the carpet. I use it on construction sites. Hopefully all these repairs will carry me through a good while. I don't mind spending a few bucks if I don't have to buy a new LX 570.

How is the interior leather holding up with that kind of use?

You should be good to go for the next hundred thousand miles

If it’s that one at Kendall I know two different guys that are seriously looking at it. Not to rush you but it probably won’t be there long.

Also budget and a set of snow tires. I got my winter wheels from Kendall. They were take offs from a new tundra. May be able to negotiate in if you’re looking at the one they have on their lot.

The side of the bottom driver seat I just starting to crack. I have a 1/4" rip in the front passenger seat from Milo the pitbull's nail. He's got 36 allergies but really likes hanging his head out the window so we cut him some slack.

So just a thought If you are buying it as a family car. First off I’ll state I really like my 200 and plan on keeping it for at least another 10-15 years.

As mentioned before I use my LX 570 close to its capacity off road and pull a 7k camper all summer. If I didn’t use the off-road ability and towing capacity there is no way I would be driving the 200. It’s huge and heavy and drives that way: Sucks in the snow/ice, expensive to own/drive/maintain, gets dismal gas mileage (I drive very conservative and get 13-14 mpg summer and 10-11 mpg winter city driving). The 3rd row is only really suitable for occasional use (mine was removed for the first 3 years).

For that much you could get a new Subaru accent or Toyota Highlander (or many other nice 3row suvs) that would both be way better family haulers.

I’m not trying to talk you out of it, If you want an LC there is nothing out there like it but the best functioning family cars they are not.

Purchased a 2014 with 74k miles last week. Been meaning to start a thread but need some pictures.

We are buying studded tires so that will be a non-issue. Appreciate everyone’s help!

There may be better family cars but none of them are as safe or well made.
