Got home from working out of town all week, driving close to home and this is in a guys driveway. Almost had a wreck, stopped and talked with him, turns out it's a friend of his and he travels quite abit and leaves a rig at his house when he flies out. this time he decided to drive this, he said it's been in the family for years and they keep it on their ranch. left a note on it for the owner to call when he gets home. Appears very unmolested, very stock, had 50,000 miles on the OD. maybe original??? I think it's a 63 or 64 has a stamped bezel.
I hope to chat with the owner in a few weeks

dang me.

:D

Dang, that's what mine is supposed to look like!

I know next to absolutely nothing about SWB's.

Do they all have a split rear window? Is it just the non-removable top ones or the removable tops also that have the split window?

I think that looks real cool.

Dave

Non-removable tops have the slider windows in the back only.. Removable tops should be very similar to the longboard tops.. Big fixed window in the back.

You know the easiest way to check the year is the first number on the VIN plate. TreeRoot would probably know if any of these old 45s were 63s with 62 production date. It looks like it could be that old. Probably one of the oldest 45 pickups still around in this country. I guessing it's a 63 if the stamped bezel is original. That was dropped during 63. Original tailgate for a 45, no footman loops, plus the license plate bracket is in the corner not on the tailgate. Tail lights on the rear of the frame not like the later SWBs with them in the tub. Tail lights look like the 64 thru early 69 FJ40 style but could have been changed. The 63 FJ40s were smaller like the FJ25s. Do you have any pictures of the interior? The windshield mounted rear view mirror change in 64.

Lucky he still has all the hub caps instead of the PTO winch, they seem to be worth more than the winch these days.

I'll try and get more info this weekend when I get home. I hoping to chat with the owner when he gets back from his trip.

Who has been to Toyota's muesum in CA? Do they have a 45 this old there? If not that's where this one belongs. Look at the top of the wheel well, It doesn't look like anything was ever loaded in to the back of this thing. Is the reat of the floor just as straight? I wish the wheel wells of my longbed looked that nice. If the inside is as clean as the outside this would be a pretty easy restore everything is still there and no rust. I would guess that the 50K is original miles.

John

that is sweet
mine look like swiss cheese...
I might have some extra hubcaps....

it's deffinetly not dukes. nt sure what i was thinking. maybe one of his other rigs is tan.....
maybe this one is on mike's root45 site so we can figure out who owns it?

when I talked to the guy who's driveway it's parked in, he told me he thought it was in the owners family for years, I am assuming maybe original owners. He told me the town where he's from, and it's a ranch family.

Yes the bed is in primo shape, like it's never hauled anything large, or had anything dropped into it. no RUST, floorbaords inside the cab still have some paint on them. only thing inside that isn't original is the heater, tucked under the glovebox. the dash has no extra holes in it.

I'll get some more pics, if it's still there on sat.

That one is not mine....although I will take dibbs. Sounds like I would be way down the line. I have picked up three longbeds since you were in Wy last. Just took "RARE" out of winter storage and it is back under the awning. Please stop by if anyone is in the area. We are getting ready to have our first meetings of the summer(unofficial club). We now have eight 45s in our little town of about 500. I sure can imagine that incredible feeling of driving down the road and catching a view of one of those nearly untouched shorties. Good luck reeling that one in...try to get some sleep between now and when the guy calls you back.

Did you just buy Dave's (crocket) FJ45. I talked to him through email and he sounded real happy that it went to a cruiser guy who knew what he was doing. I am very jealous that you bought his truck.
