Hey Ladies & Gents,

New to this forum. Just found a lightly used 1999 LX470 in nice condition. I live in Panama so I don’t know how many of these there are around but it was a single owner from new. US spec and imported. Toyota Le is dominate the market here and are easiest to find parts.

So the driving here whether you are on dirt or pavement, is an off road adventure. On 100km/h paved road, you can find holes that will break your vehicle. And speed bumps on fast speed limit roads that you technically can’t hit at more than 5km/h.

I was hoping not to completely rebuild this truck as it has good bones, but I wanted to do a long travel suspension with fairly big tires that can handle anything I hit. Body roll on curves I don’t really care about. I’d rather this this ride like a Baja truck.

If done a little bit of looking around and got some emails back from vendors with no real luck. One even said that nobody manufactures such a thing for this model.

Am I kinda looking to have to do this all custom shop? I mean, labor here is cheap and can probably just give this to a suspension and wheel shop, but the technical expertise isn’t so good here and they tend to do stuff inadequate and Mickey Mouse when it comes to building stuff.

Any ideas would be super appreciated. Thanks in advance and I look forward to being part of this community.

Heres a thread with the info you need although it's not a very common build setup for these trucks. The amount of work involved and parts needed seem to be extensive but I have no direct experience with it.

I’ve seen that one and its pretty awesome. It might just be better to get a Tacoma or ranger or something like that. There seems to be bolt on kits up the wazoo.

I think it's the wrong truck to "go fast" and do baja truck things. Just my opinion. The torsion bars are really going to limit travel and it's a heavy vehicle.

I agree and was going to suggest that as well. It's be alot easier if we had more kits and parts available for the 100 series but it's not the ideal platform for a quick upgrade to long travel.

The OEM suspension can take a beating but I totally get wanting to float across all choppy road conditions

Well. Sad day. Well I throw a set of pillowy tires on and call it a day. Is there an SUV in the Lexus/Toyota lineup that I can achieve what I want?

Well, the 200 can use Tundra front end parts and there are several “off the shelf” Long Arm kits available for the Tundra.

Yes, either LC200/LX570

Go with the 200 series.

See my recent posts in the below thread. KOR has a coilover conversion kit, but you don't gain much by way of performance and it costs ~$11k including labor.
