Looking to get into Land Cruiser ownership as I'm a big Toyota guy. I used to work for Toyota Manufacturing and I own a '12 Tundra TRD. Right now I'm looking at an '08 LC200 with 83k one owner miles. They're asking 29k and I'm thinking I should jump on it. Am I thinking right?

Sounds like a winner to me. Trust me, it won't last long. Just getting broke in at 83,000mi.

Condition? Maintenance? Factors that weigh in on the decision.

I paid $10k more than that for an 08 with 48k miles...and in PERFECT condition.

If that unit is in excellent shape? Seems like a great deal to me...

All the service records are available and it was originally purchased and serviced at the dealer that has it for sale now.

It is the one in Miami! I got the salesman to send me some detailed pics and it is rough. Rear bumper is damaged, headlights are faded yellow, carpet needs replaced, various trim pieces are missing and damaged. It would be perfect for a build if one could get it cheap enough since it has been mechanically maintained. I shot him a lowball offer since it needs so much attention. We'll see...

Is it as rough as this one?

For Sale: - 200 Series in Denver - Warning!

I couldn't believe how trashed this one was, and I have found quite a few since then that were almost as bad. Always shocks me how poorly people treat these expensive and uncommon trucks!

Not quite that bad. But at least it had weather tech mats! lol
The shifter knob does look just as worn as the one you posted though. I guess some people are just slobs and have disposable income. I fit in neither of these categories.

From my 200 hunting it seems the shifter knob wear is very common and not necessarily indicative of a poorly maintained vehicle. I wouldn't let that deter you if all else looks up to par.

They guy was a smoker. Betting he'd rest his cigarette hand on the shifter while stinking up the vehicle with smoke... So hand on and off that thing aaaaall daaaaay looooong.

Update...The salesman didn't even respond to my lowball offer. Maybe someone else can give it a shot. If you're interested, its a Kendall Toyota in Miami. I can send you the pics if you pm me. I offered $24k since it needs new carpet, headlights, rear bumper cover (would go with an ARB obviously), several interior trim pieces replaced, and who knows what else.

I also called about this one. After my 3rd call I finally got a salesperson on the phone (others went to VM). She said she would forward me pictures; they never came. The listing on cars.com has now been deleted, so I assume they sold it. I've never seen a dealership with such poor communication... but I guess if they sold the car it doesn't matter. Good luck in your search, looks like it's mirroring my frustrating effort.

So no "in" with your previous connections with TMxxx where ever you were involved with manufacturing?

I'd contact some of your old amigos in the pipeline and see if they can hook you up!

:)

Welcome.

I actually got good response from the salesman and he sent me tons of pictures. Good thing he did, because I was about to book my flight!

Yeah TMM doesn't quite work that way. When I was there we always joked that if a dealer in the area asked if we were an employee to lie and say we weren't because they would make the deal as hard as possible for us. Toyota just doesn't have as high of a mark up as other manufactures. Nissan on the other had (I used to work for them as well) give their employees the hook up. But after working at Nissan, I wouldn't own another one of their vehicles. They're kind of the Chrysler of Japanese auto makers imo.

I was an Engineer the plant in Indiana.

Very cool. Yes, the dealers in the Plano area are all probably wondering how to sell cars to the 4K employees about to show up over the next two years.

So you worked on the Sequoia and Highlander's then?

Very cool.

Couple of other TMM folks on IH8MUD as well.

Yeah and I was there when the Tundras were still manufactured there. I was over the Sienna Chassis lines mostly.
