I have a 1fz-fe which i got for my 97, that I dropped a little over a grand of parts at. When i put it in, i had no idea that it had needed a head gasket...until I ran it.
It came out of a 95 that had 220k on it.
The water pump, oil cooler internals, thermostat, power steering pump, valve cover gasket (and associated grommets & pcv), starter, alternator, a/c compressor, belts, some hoses, block drain valve, plugs/wires/distributor cap, oil pressure gauge, exhaust manifolds/studs/gasket, etc etc have all been replaced due to needing it, or just as a peace of mind. Wiring harness will be included as well. I cannot afford to have it fixed, nor try to fix it myself. Despite the head gasket, it idled smooth and starts right up.
Based on car-part.com listings of similar 1FZ engines, I am going to start at $1500. I just want to recoup funds for all these parts I brought, and they are way less than a year old. This would not be considered a core, it still runs. It will run beautifully with a new head gasket job. It's still in my 80 for the time being, so you can hear it run if desired. I will pull it on a weekend with a deposit.
