If there are no objections, I'm going to start my own thread and get off the general 4runner thread. Wonder if a moderator would be willing to move the lift discussion and my photos over here?

With advice from many and lately very specific help from Chris Tolleson, I have decide to go with an Old Man Emu 1.5" lift with spacers and possibly "33 tires. Chris' shop will be doing the install for me next week. I would try it myself but I'm under pressure to have it ready for my NM trip at the beginning of June and have to much work right now to be able to focus on it. I am going to tackle the ball joints this weekend on my own. Parts are sitting in the truck now.

I do have a question about fuel. The dash board says premium. I have heard different things about whether its ok to run regular or medium grade. Would love to hear some of your thoughts on here.

"I OBJECT TO THIS THREAD!!!"

Just kidding. Looking forward to the build.

To your fuel question, I don't think mine says premium and I can tell you I have put 115k on mine since I bought it 3 years ago, all on 87 octane with no issues. If it has run on premium from day one then I would try mid grade first and run a few tanks of that they it listening for pinging under load. If that goes good, then step it down to 87 and see how that goes. If you don't see or hear any issues then you should be good. Might change the plugs as part of that and just make sure you don't see signs of any unusual combustion inside. Maybe change the oil and drop to mid, run that thru til the next oil change, then step it down again at the next one. If you start getting the ping, then you may have to step back up. If honestly be surprised if it has really been run in premium from the start.

So you settled on the ome setup. I'd like to hear your feedback on it. I know several guys running ome now and are happy.

Look forward to seeing some before and after shots.

Judging by the sticker on the cluster and the badges on the C pilar, I willing to bet that truck had a TRD blower on it at some point in its life.

I looked it up. a supercharger wow. Why would they remove that? Is that the main reason for premium gas?

This confirms what I have read on other forums. I may try that.

I did just my lowers when I did my brakes and added the tall coils a couple years ago. The upper joints do take a ball joint tool. I have also heard that Toyota doesn't sell just the upper alone (unconfirmed) due to concerns about improper installations and failures due to that.

I'm guessing the uppers don't wear as fast or take as much abuse? I actually have both new uppers and lowers, I just want to invest the minimal necessary time at this point.

If 49 Tire is going to do your lift, might as well have them change ball joints while they are in there. They will have better access to the UCA's and LCA's when they are installing the coilovers. I would do upper and lower if you can pull it off now. Once they have the knuckle/spindle apart, they can probably tell which one is worn more (the upper or lower) and you can make the call then.

Actually had them do both upper and lower this week. Will post up pix of lift and new tires before weekend is out.

Are you and the runner making a debut appearance at the boil?? I will be in attendance and would like to see this lift, not sure if I will have enough time to go through the diff's and transfer to see if I have water contamination from the mud hole, so my runner maybe taking a weekend off.

I plan to be there.
