Ok gang after doing some checking and finding out that aussie lockers arent recomended in daily drivers not sure about that so any help there would be cool also would like to know what lockers you guys would recomend for my 80 rear and front. Also if ne 1 is interested can get 4:88 gears front and rear from local shop in fallon for right about $550 bucks plus tax. Thanks
Also if ne one is looking for an adventure trailer Martyn has a used one for sale think its like dans with tent for 6,500 look on the expedition portal forums

I drove my 60 for awhile every day with the aussie in the rear, and it was slighty noticable. If you take your time and set it up correctly with new thrust washers with proper clearances, you won't notice it. I like mine for the price. Seems like it would be even more forgiving in a 80 series with the auto.

My vote is for selectable front and rear. I've been 100% happy with the ARB on the front. If it wasn't so darn much $$$ to get one on the rear of my 100 (have to buy 2-ARB lockers and combine parts as they do not make one for the rear 100). My e-locker works fine and so far dependably it's just a little slower to engage/disengage compared to the ARB.

I'm going to agree with Dylan, I had a lock-rite in the rear of my jeep for years. I drove that thing everywhere including to L.A. and back. I pulled trailers and well pretty much used it in everyway you could. With the manual, you knew it was there, just had to drive it as such. I had a buddy that had one in his scout w/ auto and the only way you new it was there was when you were offroad and it worked.

There are quite a few of the 80 owners on 'Mud that run them in the rear axle. I wouldn't put one in the front, but by all means they are great in the rear. Now if you have the money, then ARB's all the way. But if you need a locker and money is tight, the aussie type lockers rule. There are a few that run aussie rear and ARB front.

That is a great price on gears. Does that include the Master install kit? Also, you can keep the carrier bearings, they seem to last 300k, the pinion bearings will need to be replaced, both the inner and outer bearing. So make sure you are getting R&P front and rear, Pinion Bearings front and rear and shims for both carriers/pinions.

How is an auto/non-selectable style rear locker on ice/snow/off-camber?

You definately have to watch your gas pedal...
Not that anything BAD will happen, itll just try to snap you in a straight line if you gas it too much!
Ive driven the Blotch rig in the snow on a few occasions, and have never really noticed it was there except when making a right turn from a stop and I gassed it a bit too much.
I cant imagine WHY it wouldnt be recommended to DD use...Making tight turns you can hear it wratchet, but aside from that...they work awesome.

IMO, I dont think its necessary to have an ARB/ selectable locker, but thats just me.

They are nice if you want a locked front diff. Mike has a Lincoln rear and Lockrite front. Sometimes he gets the front axle locked and it's tough for him to steer.
If I had it to do again on my 40 I'd go with an auto locker rear and ARB front.

Thanks gang well the reason they told me is that in a DD it will wear out the housing in a year or two due to the constant working of the locker but i kinda thought that was odd as ive seen them in DD's before and havent heard anyone complain about having then tear up their housing but yes am deff going Aussie in the rear of the 40 and arb up front and will prolly do the same on the 80 not to worried about the noise of the locker was just worried about wether it would tear up my housing in a year or two on the 80 as that is my DD Thanks

In my jeep which was the worst case scenario (lightweight, short wheelbase, manual) you knew it was there, but nothing you couldn't handle. As soon as you put it in 4wd, it drove very normal, just more capable.

My buddy in his scout, said it would push him in the snow in 2wd, but again in 4wd, it became transparent.

If a Dana 35 can hold up to a auto locker, I don't think you will have a problem in either cruiser rear axle and I have never heard of them wearing the housing out. I have seen/heard of wearing the crosspin, but not the housing.

Aussie/arb is a very nice combo.

If I wasn't neck deep in my project, I would be glad to help. The big thing is just follow the instruction booklet that come with it. If a bunch of early 20's dumba$$ kids (me and my buddies) can figure it out, you shouldn't have any problems. The D35 even had c-clips like your cruisers. Also check the clearances to make sure you are within specs, they work and last much longer if you do that.

I had mine installed when I had the gears set up...
That being said, I did help with. IIRC, it was kinda difficult to get the center pin in, and something else. Might be different with the Aussie though. Ive heard that its way easy to do.
Im definately going with the ARB for the front down the road.

That seems to be the ticket IMO!

You might be able to get those from someone like ringandpinion.biz or some of the other gear shops. The only ones that I know of that are dealer only are the shims used in the rear of the e-locker rear third member used in the 93 and up LC's.

I don't think that you can "hear" an aussie locker engage/disengage like a Detroit. Correct?

Umm im not sure will find out soon enough though hehe

Not so much as "hear" it while engaging/disengaging, more like "feel" it. Now you will probably hear it "ratcheting" while coasting/turning.
