I've pulled the diffs on the 60. Got a pair of ARB's here. Since I've had complicated shoulder issues all building and working on trucks has
ground to a halt. It's been too long, but it is what it is. My question is a result me my buying the ARB lockers at a really good price and already
having extra bits from my old 40 switches and wires etc. I also had tremendous luck with mine in the many years of use with no o ring or air
line failures.
Fast forward a decade and a bit. The new fittings thru the diff are a pain in the ass. Far more parts and not user friendly certainly not something
I'd want to take apart at the edge of a mud hole should need arise. Also I'm hearing from many who are not fans of new o rings failing at higher
rates than they should.
Electric lockers are now far more of a norm. I should have done updated research because I'm pretty loyal to what works for me. Yet now I've had
a bit of influence from a couple of others who fall on electric side without question.
The other thing is, I've been running a Toyota 4 pinion LS in the back for almost 10 yrs and it's worked well, but I feel long distances would be a bit
of an improvement to fuel economy with released differential.
So what are your ideas and suggestions, what is the common go to? I don't rock crawl, trailer my truck. Most trips are well over 2000 miles so it's
as much getting there as being there.

I didn’t see an option for factory cable locked ;)

If I didn’t have cable lockers I would have 80 series electric.

Because they are really rare, and guys like to brag they got them but it's not like they can be bought readily. And i didn't think of them.

I took my differentials (front and rear) to a differential shop along with the new ARB air lockers and left them. A few days later I came back and they were all installed and ready to go. Didn't cost much either.
Effortless, painless, easy, and inexpensive installation --- and after 25 years they still work fine

I vote electric. With properly sealed connectors I think it would be more reliable for longer. I'll do Toyota factory e lockers if I ever happen to have the money and a good deal pop up at the same time lol.
My lunchbox locker started doing weird stuff after about 10k miles so I took it back out.

Plus the other bonus not yet mentioned, with a cut down 80 series electric locker axle you get the sexy full floater axle.

cruiserpilot because you live near me I have this, would be a bit of a project but! I have weld on flanges to turn a 60 or 40 series axle into a full floater that would then accept factory Toyota lockers. I never used these and they been sitting for years because I found the cable locked axles. These utilize front spindles and bearings which is a big bonus because the 40,60 and 80 full float spindles are part of the axle, unchangeable if you spin a bearing. You would also need and 80 series electric pumpkin, nitro custom length axle shafts.

Thanks Steve, I've already got a FF out back. I'd look at rear discs but I'm concentrating on locker issues right now.

This is the first I've heard of ARB issues. I had good luck with them in my 4R and have one ready to go in my 62, planning on a second for up front.

Then I feel your decision is made for you.

Only reason people go arb air is because factory Toyota Elocked differentials don’t work with basic semi float axles. You are already set up to go for an 80 series ELocker.

You might need to get your splines cut longer on your short side axle. And add an extra notch in your housing flange to accept the factory Toyota ELocker, that’s it..

Gasket shows the extra notch.
