My lock cylinder for the rear hatch no longer works. The key goes into the key slot but doesn't turn with the key. I took everything apart to see what was going on in there and I saw that the lock mechanism is corroded thus not being able to turn.
Is there some way I can free up the mechanism to make it work again? I tried penetrating oil, taping it in an effort to try and free up the corrosion and I even tried heating it a bit with a torch.
None of the things I've done worked.
Any ides?

Is it possible to soak the whole assy. in something like carb cleaner or brake parts cleaner? That's usually what I try to do with anything that's all gunked up. Dry er off, dust with graphite, reinstall?

My $.02

You can replace the lock cylinder for cheap. If you want to spend a few extra $ you can even have a locksmith re-key it to match you ignition key to you don't have to do the "two-key tango". C Dan can set you up with a replacement then all you have to do is open the lower tail gate access plate and pop the old lock out.
