Chains for 285's will run you about $120. They aren't cheap and not stocked locally! I ordered mine from JCWhitney's catalog when I purchased my Revo's.

I got mine @ the dreaded 4wheelparts for around $100. They had them in stock when I went last year.

I have 1 set (2 tires) for 285's if anyone wants to borrow them. Wish I could make the 20th. I could problably make the 21st.

cheers,
David...

I could pick these up and return them for anyone who would need to use them.

Failing memory, 285/75/16's on JC Whitney for the chain type are $87. Don't bother with the cheap cable types.

try walmart, the one in Hiland stocked chains all the way up to 315's last year, bought a set for my dodge with 285's.... and they were less than 100$

Thanks for the offer but they are too small for mine.

Ray, good tip on Walmart, thanks. I should probably get some.

20th is better for me

any body know where to get chains for 37's ? I found some for hummers but I can't justify the $640 :O

Just found out I might have a scheduling conflict for the 21st. I will see what I can do. We should pick an official date too. Stan, your call.

Honestly either is ok with me. If we go 20th, maybe I can talk some of you :princess: s into camping with me that night afterwards. If we go the 21st, maybe I can talk some of you :princess: s in camping the night before.

Mark,
Just do an internet search and tirechains.com and the others have "standard" sets (1 pr) for around $100 shipped and the reinforced v-bar ones for ~$150 a pair shipped. I've found there's quite a bit of variation in the sizing such that a lot of the 35" sets are the same part # as those for the 36" and 37" tire sizes.

Also, just an FYI for those that have never used chains off road on some more of the challenging trails - one pair don't always cut it, even with lockers and good tires. But that's just my opinion....;)

Thanks for the link Mike, those welded bar ones are the way to go...I used to have a set for a dually. These are going to be a sure way to finish off my fender flares:D

Hi Mark....

looks like tirecains.com is cheep 92$ for 37's

I may want another set for that price...

Mike,
I haven't wheeled the BFG at's in the snow only the muds. Do they do ok or will I be spinning alot even with chains?

slomo you would be fine with chains. BFG AT's are very good in the snow as long as there isn't too much sticky mud. And if theres mud just put on the chains and you'll be as good as any "Mud" tire

Excellent, thank you.

you guys going to chain 1 or 2 axels? hoping for only 1. But wait, my AT's are "severe Weather" "mountain snowfalke"....hehe.

Seems like we're still drifting between the 20th and 21st.....any change in dates?? hoping so.

I'd love to go if I'm in town.

getting chains is a pain, though... really necessary (MT/Rs) ?

of course not

But you might want to consider the way Goodyear MT/R's are in snow. Maybe your experience is different but BFG AT's are much, much better in snow than them. And as for chains in general, you live in CA where in the winter nearly every mountain road indicates that you should be carrying a set (even if 4WD). Most folks with 4WD just lie if asked and go on without any issues. But it's a small amount to be safe (less than $100 for one set, used ones after ski season can be had for nearly half price). Wheel enough in the snow and ice and you'll understand that tires and lockers don't do squat under a lot of situations. See how your MT/R's do as you attempt to brake on an icy downhill with a 90-deg turn midway down, bordered by trees on one side and a cliff on the other....

This sounds very interesting.......... Is there possibly room for one more??
