I recently acquired a complete axle spring set up out of an LJ78 which I've installed into my 1968 109 landrover.

I don't know much about the electric rear locker. Operating procedure, maintenance ect.

Also I know nothing about the electric locking front hubs. Are they any good, reliable? What kind of maintenance do they require?
It also has the electric shocks. I understand they have a hard and soft setting.
Are these any good?

I'm going to run 35"BFG muds which will be a good combination the Izuzu engine and 5 spd I already have from a later model Trooper.

Anyway any info tips and advice would be welcome regarding these toyota parts going under the old rover. There isn't much that's land rover left except the body. Even the interior is a combination of Toyota and Mitsubishi.
Cheers.

It would be a major job to try to make the electric hubs work, as electric , you would need the controll box which is controlled with info from the speedo, so they can't be engauged over 10Km per hour.
As for there strength , theres none stronger than the genuine toyota hubs.
Ive been makeing a converstion kit so Cruiser owners can keep there electric hubs but manualy enguage them.
Also do's away with a converstion kit, if you fit none toyota hubs.

No I didn't get the control box, so I understand there's a way to wire in a manual switch to engage the hubs.

Also from another thread I understand there's a possibility the rig they came out of might have been 24 volt! Which would add a complication to the set up.

The controll box has a timer , of about 5 seconds ,so not only for in and out but it also checks that the hubs are in gear, if your hub button is in, each time the key is turned on.
To try and make all the happen, you would have ask yourself , is it all worth it.

I would change them out to manual to save alot of grief. I have sent a set of spacers to G and S cruiser parts for a manual install, I believe they might be putting a package together for some kits - maybe try them.

I am having a bunch of kits made up for my vehicles and for my customers vehicles. The kit is quite simple - a set of spacers, a set of hubs, some bolts, acorns, tap and instructions.

when it comes to adding the elec hubs to a unit that never had them i would consider changing them out to either manual using old blue or Ishobie kit...
ALL LJ78 parts are 12V...you can wire them up easy enough using a push button engagement but you need to know how many seconds it will take to properly engage...
the elec rear locker can also be wired to work off a push button. it is very strong and will endure quite a bit of abuse.
you will love the 4.9 diff gears.
the birfields in the front are probably one of the strongest made in the LJ78

LJ78 axles on a 109 LR

hi, i was contemplating on doing the same swap on a series 2 to get the coil suspension, instead of the range rover chassis/suspension set up. do you have pics on how you went about the swap? did you also make your 109 a coil suspension setup? i really like toyota's but i also like the older rovers. with regards to your question on how to make the electric hubs work, the easier way is to convert them to manual locking hubs.
happy new to all!

I thought is the same method tike a transfer electric motor .. HF2A it take in the transfer like a 5 segs to engage.

If you brought the axle unit, way not go and get the ECU from that Cruiser and see if you can wire it up.
You can do away with the speed cencer, as my hubs still worked when my speedo cable was broken.
By fitting theECU youll have all the timing (engaugement) sorted out.
