...anyone out there with a 1989 LJ73 who could take a photo of the wire colors in and out of the bulkhead connector under the steering wheel?

PO mess means no wipers and all the wires spliced into the ones out of the column switch are green! I'm not sure what should go out the other side - and it seems like they've omitted the wiper relay...

I'd like to track the correct ones from the bulk group coming from the dash and splice in something useful.

Wow, that looks like a mess! I have wiring diagrams for 1990+ model years, but not for the pre facelift models. @2gbFlashDrive may be able to get some photos of his.

Thanks @AirheadNut - I spent a day trying to figure if out from wiring diagrams in the Resources section with no joy. A photo would be gold!

Hello,

This is from the FSM. It is from a Heavy Duty 70 Series manual but it might be useful.

Color codes are
  1. B: black.
  2. BR: brown.
  3. GR: gray.
  4. L: blue.
  5. LG: light green.
  6. O: orange.
  7. P: pink.
  8. R: red.
  9. V: violet.
  10. Y: yellow.
  11. W: white.
  12. G: green.
Two letters with a dash indicate a two-color wire, such as L-R, which stands for blue-red.

Hope this helps.

Hi Juan, and thanks for the suggestion!

I found the relevant light-duty manual courtesy of Onur’s uploads in the resources section.

I can match the wires on the steering column switch side of the connector but not the vehicle loom side (as many have been cut).

I think the PO bypassed the timer and am almost ready to remove the whole dash to find out.

Thankfully the only other item on my list for this week is to remove the fuel tank and replace the sender, lines and fill tube…
