I'm looking for a set of springs to lift my lj70 and found this broucher for dobbinson springs. It looks good, most places in Aus don't offer anything this detailed for the LJ70 cruisers...

http://www.dobinsonsprings.com/catalogues/Toyota.pdf

The pages of interest are 100, 101 and 102

Does anyone have any ideas why the late model swb and the lwb need long travel shocks for the 65mm lift, while the early model LJ doesn't?

I would have thought they would be the same, but the springs for the bigger lift are a different part number.

Cheers

You can only assume the later model has more travel.
The earlier model doesnt flex as well which was one of the main complaints about the LJ70
There was a 7 page write up about the 7o series in 4WD Monthly some time back and it mentioned it in there.

Plenty of Bundeera and 80 series owners give good feedback on the Dobinson coils on outer limits .

I agree on their catalogue,it is one of the best anywhere;)

perhaps, i thought they were mechanically the same. Does anyone know how the later model is different?

the trailing arms have a tranverse articulation to to the frame on the later models whereas the early model bushes axially. The shock layout is different, the rear has both shocks on the rear sideor the axle on the later, early had LH shock in the back and RH shock in front, different legths too.
The front shocks on the 2nd gen. are inside the front springs a la landrover.
