Ok, I just ran down to the line-x place and got a quote for spraying the beast. I asked for the "normal" spray around the flares, and along the rocker panel, about 12 inches high all around. The guy said 300 bucks. Is this fair? Also, for the hood (down the center lines of it) he said another 50 bucks.

Question is, do you all feel this is a decent price? I have looked at the Duraback and know how much it will cost me to do myself including my time etc. I was just wondering if this price for Line-x is normal or high or low. Thanks for the advice.

PS...........dont tell me to search.....................By the time you could have answered this my searching efforts would still be going on. :D

All four flares/rocker panels and your front hood for $350. Are you removing your flares and having the linx put in there place or onto the flares? If leaving the flares off, having just done the Durabak, I'd say that's a good price. If you are keeping the flares, invest in a new set of flare gaskets from Dan and it's still a good price. As you've already pointed out - how valuable is your own time and do you 'enjoy' doing this yourself. Answere those questions as well and you'll have your answer.

Thanks for the advice. Yes, my time is factored into the equation. I like doing this stuff, but, I think I have to many other projects going on to take up another. Still though, keeping flares and doing the hood for 350 sounds ok to me. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this done for this amount.

Quick searches on TYLER and Clarkrw3 posts in Outfitting and this subject will give you some other quick estimates. IIRC your quote is pretty good. Having read all these types of posts before doing myself, the estimates from either Rhino or Linx have run anyware from $200-$500, so you are right in the middle.

FWIW I just checked with the two closest Line-x places today and got $480 & $1000 for just the flare area and the rocker below the doors. $300 sounds like a very good price to me. :D

Thanks for the input so far everyone. Sad part, the wife asked what in the hell I was doing at the Line-X place today. I told her, then told her how the price was sooooo good........................her exact words were "ya fxxxing right, your not spending another dime on that thing. Not until you paint the house and finish the tile!"

Damnit, why does she always have to bring down a good thing:crybaby:

Well, maybe next week I might just have to surprise her when I bring the beast home with a new layer of Line-X on it:grinpimp:

good price...

Damn good price... the place near me wants fxxxin $650 to do the same!!!!

Mine was free .. ;p I spotted one of the guys with his knee on my roof, and brought to his attn that he was quietly crushing my roofline. Then walked out calmly .. they followed a while later and said 'it's on the house'. Then they had a guy come and look at my roof. It's hardly noticeable unless you know precisely where to look, so I never got it fixed.

I think something easy to gauge price with is this: They told me they charge incrementally based on some factor I've already forgotten .. time? volume? Ticks on some wierd meter? In any case, it would be easier perhaps for you to phone and ask for them to give you an estimate on something incredibly standard .. like the box of a new F150. They've all done 200 of them, so they'll all have a standard price. That should be directly proportional to what you'll pay on whatever it is you need done.

TY

I got all four wheel well areas done for $375. That being said, i the next best quote I received around here was $650.

Keep in mind, it's usually pretty easy to sell the flares once you take them off and dont need them anymore. I ended up getting $350 for them so it all worked out pretty well.

Sometimes i miss the flares but the extra 5-6 inches i cut off in width is noticable in tight areas.

 sounds like the $1000 place didn't want to mess with the job Mo. Even for $480 the Durabak process is looking better and better.

TY,
The guy told me yesterday that they use "A buck fifty per pass with the gun, masking labor (more when door jambs are included aka back flare), and a material chage by approx. square foot.". FWIW I also noticed a large variance in what they want to do the same job so I think alot of the price depends on who is giving it to you.

I agree, I figured they would want about $300-$400 but I had to keep from laughing in his face when he said " I can do it for $1000.00, would you like to schedule an appointment?" Yeah, let me check my schedule. How about in this many days :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: ?

Overall, if I were going to do the bed of a pickup I would spend the money because I think the Line-X is much thicker and has a lifetime warranty. On the side/top of an 80 the Durabak will suffice since it will not get as worked. The Line-X looks a little better but not $860 better.

I just set up an appointment for next week.
The Lin-X shop here quoted me $80 per side to do the flare area, center molding line and rocker panel. Thats $160 total.
I asked about doing the inside of the wheel wells and he said its $50 per wheel well. This same shop qouted Concrete $500. Not sure what the difference is but I made sure to get the guys name and actually went and talked to him face to face and he showed me some of the difference textures. I think their prices vary a good bit depending on how busy they are and if you are in a hurry. I really think it helps if you check out their work and mention you are thinking about doing durabak yourself. Good luck, thats a good price. Post pics when you are done. I will to.
