My engine is bleeding. i have traked it back to the lifter cover. Now I have a 1960 F-100 w/ a close engine in it, so I don't think it is too big of a deal to fix. But, The distributor is in the way, is it a simple mark it, pull it, replace it thing or is there more on a cruiser. Secondly will I mess up anything by pulling all the hose (Except AC of Course) outa the way. I heard there was a control unit or something in the way. Whatta you guys think?

Dino,

I believe you're referring to the valve cover gasket on your 3FE engine. Search the archives to see if there is some more information. I don't have a 3FE so I skip over most of the tech details but I vaguely remember someone saying the valve cover gasket is an easy repair on the 3FE.

Lifter Cover

No it isn't the valve cover. If you are on the passenger side of thew truck and look under thr distrubutor ther is a cover. Usually where the robs come from the cam to the lifters. Is isn't a pressure seal it's usually only there so you can easly check if you have a sticking lifter.

OK, now I know what you're talking about. I helped disassemble the top end of a 2F and it had that cover as you described. Unfortunately, I can't help as that engine was out of the vehicle when we took it apart.

One of the 3FE guys will have to help you on this question.

That would be a "COVER, VALVE PUSH ROD".

The gasket for it is an 11253-61010. List is $10.29

You may be able to snake the cover out without removing the distributor. You would likely need to remove the cap and wires though.

Gasket

Do I need to pick up the gasket at Napa or a Dealer?

My answer is a bit tainted, I say get it at a dealer.

gasket

Would you sugest a rtv type sealant also or just the gasket. I do know the trick of a dab on the cover to hold the gasket.

I would put it on dry, you will thank yourself the next time you have to remove the cover.
