2017 LX570. I was surprised when scheduling my next fluid change the service writer saying Lexus recommended a full trans fluid flush at 30K. I don't see that anywhere online and was wondering if I'm just missing it or what. Any help is appreciated.

Blatant rip-off. :bang:

That’s nuts. I’d be more worried about only having 30k miles in 8 years… You should probably sell it. DM me. :p

And look at that cost. No wonder the dealer recommends it.

No transmission oil is good for hundreds of thousands of miles - no matter what a manual says. A 30k mile interval is very reasonable, maybe a little brief, although it needs to be done as a series of drain/fills or exchanged through the cooler circuit. Power flushes are no good. Anywhere from 30-50k miles is a reasonable interval.

This should consume ~3 gallons of WS fluid for a full exchange.

If Toyota didn't want the transmission serviced, why did they include the service procedure in the FSM?

Crazy for something that is really easier to do than the standard oil change once you consider the time involved in removing skid plates and the engine oil filter. Only real challenge is monitoring the trans oil temp to insure the fill level is correct.

If the dealership is using the bg fluid exchange system then it will use 16 quarts of atf. They will probably use the bg atf. I called around dealerships in my area. Was quoted that they will bill one hour ($170) of labour. if I brought my own fluid. Another independent shop quoted two hours of labor $150 + $150 ($300)if I brought my own fluid. $460 if they used the bg ATF.

I had purchased world standard atf during the sale. My mechanic did four drain and fills and used 14 quarts. I was 1.5 hour of labor. $220.

I have 184k miles. Last time my transmission had full fluid exchange was at 100k miles. I was charged $200 in 2018. That included the world standard atf as well.

He stated the fluid was looked good. I do not tow.

Totally reasonable to do ATF at 30,000 miles in my opinion.

Dealer seems to be gouging you a bit though.

To be clear, there should be absolutely nothing wrong with doing a full fluid exchange (using an exchanger machine) at 30,000 miles. You don't need to do multiple drain and fills. Just avoid a "flush" where outside pressure is used to clean the system (highly doubt that is what the dealer is proposing).

Not reasonable at all and regardless, that price is a major rip off.

Mr.T recommends 60k in your service booklet but only if you run under severe conditions (tow). That is 2x the miles. Maybe they copied that 30k from another Toyota model like a Camry.
There is no mileage recommended for normal operation, so basically "lifetime".

Many trucks on the road never have had a change/refresh. That's not to say that is what you should do. There are long threads here debating the interval and the method. I settled on 100k full exchange using Toyota fluid. I do not run under severe conditions. I did my first at 96k and the fluid looked great.

Use those $4k for better purposes or just donate them to a good cause, seriously that is a much better use for the money.

Come on guys. You may say it's a ripoff but you're probably not seeing that the $1000 total includes the 35,000 mile service at the bottom.

You're basically paying for the driver's floor mat inspection and road test with a free transmission fluid exchange.

I feel like most of that cost is the 4k warranty that’s included in it?

The rig has 30k miles in it, why are we worried about a transmission going out lol? BG products are made for already somewhat compromised mechanical parts, and at 30K miles, that’s not an issue for these rigs.

I would wait until it’s 50-60k miles, and then have them throw in OEM Toyota WS through a fluid exchange.

Replacing the ATF is just regular maintenance it’s not a matter of worrying about the transmission failing. The idea that this truck can use its factory tranny fluid forever is kind of absurd tbh and you’ll see that when you see what comes out of a 100k mile car.

Pick your interval. Anything from 30k to 60k is fine depending on your use case. And don’t pay a dealer $1,000 to do it, which should go without saying.

30k would be an excellent service interval. Thats what I do on all my stuff, and my 09 570 has had it done twice since i had it.......i did it myself though.

Mobil Multi Vehicle ATF, cheap and good.

Thanks for all who replied!

I have concluded a 30K mi interval change for what has been a grocery grabber Lexus had better be a waste or I did not get what I thought I was buying. I am betting that 50-75K depending on future use is where I will decide to do it, and that that will still be on the aggressive side of preventative maintenance which is where I want to be.

She's a cream puff! Got her in January of 2023 with 22K on the clock - bought CPO from a Lexus dealer in Cali.

Just wanted to mention that the service writer is a liar and the dealership is engaging in fraud. It was presented to me that full trans flush is standard Lexus recommended service for every LX570 at 30K. 30K is only "reasonable" for extreme use. I have towed a Uhaul utility trailer about 15 miles roundtrip once.

You didn’t mention towing the U-Haul trailer! What are you waiting for?!?!? Get that fluid changed NOW!!!

Jk of course. I did mine at 50k. So long as you actually service your fluid, you should be fine. As mentioned before, pick your interval and stick with it.

Go by what your owners manual states. End of story.
In that case, transmission fluid is a 'lifetime' fluid. The maintenance schedule only asks for inspections every 40k miles, which is not good enough by a long shot. I drain and fill mine at 50k which seems to contribute to the transmission (and t-case, diffs, etc) lasting forever.

Problem is you can go by owners manual or the lying, deceptive dealers trying to up charge you.

For normal driving, I stick to the owners manual. Then again, I would never keep a vehicle 20 years or 200k miles.

My driving is not considered special operating conditions which the manual says you should do some maintenance more frequently. I am not in that bucket.

I have 51k miles on my LX. 👍👍

No ATF has "lifetime" service value. Changing your transmission fluid, and your brake fluid, yearly, is the only way to ensure a lifetime of service from a lifetime truck.

There was a time when I didn't believe either statement was true. The first time I opened a 300,000 mile Toyota Land Cruiser transmission proved it to me. Now my transmissions and brakes are serviced yearly. Can you wait 10, or 20, years to do it? Yes. Should you? You decide.
