Hi,

I am going to buy a 1997 Lexus LX450 with 162,000 miles on it with front and rear lockers.

The front seats are pretty trashed though. So I was wondering if anyone knows of anyone in So. Cal where they will put
new leather on it for me.

Or maybe a high quality leather do it yourself kit?

Thanks,
Brian

AATLAS1X sells leather seats for the LC and LX. Look in the "Vendors Market" in the "Merchandise Storefront" sub-section. They are high quality and buyers seem to be happy with the product, there are also several threads with install, and before/after pics.

Look into katskinz as well, they will do anything you want

They might do whatever you want, but I contacted them about 6 months ago and they do not carry a pattern for the 80's and would have to make it custom ----- expensive. Any competent upholstery shop should be able to do it. You can still get the front seat cushions from Cdan. I have two sitting in my closet right now waiting to go in over the Christmas break. I believe they were $143 a piece from Cdan. I also have several quotes from upholstery shops around Houston. They range from $1900 to $900. The shop that does all of the work for the local Lexus dealerships quoted $1300. All of these quotes are for the front two rows of seats and arm rests. Just an FYI

x2 on this vendor, do a quick search and you will see how good his kits are. Trust me you won't be disappointed!

I have a set of AATLAS1X's covers for all 3 rows in my LX. I get compliments from everyone who rides in the truck. Best part is they have held up awesome from my 3 boys and 100lb yellow lab. My installer (30+ years in teh business) said Shane's kit was one of the best he has seen. I went with the 40th two tone and 100% leather option. Smells great!

They will not do anything you want and whore out to everyone and use the cheapest leather (China and Mongolia) and the customer service sucks beyond belief for vendors like myself, they are interested in one thing only and that's installing leather into current models at time of sale and the leather content is very low, in fact they only put leather on the inserts and not the whole seat bottom.

The LX and Toyota seat cushions are NOT the same. See my thread above for pricing and pictures, let me know if you have any questions.

See my 100 build thread in me sig line, I did it as well and my Chocolate lab has full run of my Cruiser, she just loves laying in the front seat to absorb the heat from the heaters and in turn she keeps my seat warm for me.

My covers are top quality, very cheap in cost. Uses no wire in any of the listings like Katskin does, in fact they require you to re use your rusty wire rods in the listings. Mine have plastic molded into the listings. Thicker leather and your dog can live in there with no damage. All you have to do is use a quality conditioner and cleaner.

Best,

Shane

They do look great.

AATLAS1X- I didn't see the 100% leather option listed, what does that run? Normal has leather on the surfaces you touch when sitting?

No SUV manufacture has a 100% leather on the seats, leather does not stretch and has shrinkage over time if not cared for. This makes for tears are the weak points which are the seams over time. Also installing it is a huge pain in the ass as will not stretch into place.

What is the level of difficulty in the install of these? I'm more of a computer science-y guy that likes to go off road occasionally. I installed the seat bracket extender mod, but that was way at the upper end of my spectrum with grinding/drilling etc.

What's the likelyhood that I'll rip these, ruin the seats, get divorced for a real wheeler, and wind up bicycling to public transportation? You know...in laymans terms. I haven't seen many posts on the sheer time these take to install, what's the mean install time for the f/b seats? Is 1.5x parts cost a fair assumption for labor if I get in over my head? I don't have the loose change to try again, and I can't get stuck with foam seats for my daily driver. My metro friends have enough to snigger at when I pull in with my 3in lift and AT-35s without foam and duct tape on my khakis ;).

Also, if I do the seats f/b am I committed to doing the center console/panels due to sheer ugliness of the discord?

Thanks,

Jeff

wait. You got new leather and allow a dog to romp on them?

But I agree with everyone else AATLAS1X's kits look amazing. Maybe one day I'll pull the plug on a set.

I just got leather kit from AATLAS1X. I did the first and second rows. These were the first seats I had ever done and I didn't want to tear them. I did it over 2 week-ends. Took me about 6hrs on the first seat - disassembly, tear down, and new cover install, reinstall. 2nd seat was about 3hrs. Same on the rear.

Patience and a little common sense is all that is required.

I will be picking mine up from the upholstery shop today. I went with two tone and perforated leather in middle. I'll post up pics tonight. I really like the Atlas stuff, but I couldn't beat the price of a local shop. I don't have to lift a finger and I'm out the door just under $1000 and the shop does good work.

Please post some pics. How did they turn out? I'm interested in the perforated leather inserts as well. Thanks.

I had no idea that's how they ran their business. The guy asked for options and I gave him an additional option. I really like the custom colors they do. I hope I didn't offend you. I was not trying to deter business from you! Do you do custom color options?

You would never know this, I however have been in the car business since 1985 when I was washing cars for my dad store and worked my way up and around the business. We have used many vendors over the years and Katzkin was the manufacture for more of the post installed leather for Imports like Toyota, Subaru, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Isuzu and others. They were Walmart of leather and acted as such.

They still have patterns leather to replace factory cloth but not leather for leather. So you can still get the kits for cloth land cruisers from them. I used to use them but no longer as a friend of mine is a big fish at a seat manufacture company here in the US. Most manufactures do not make the seats or covers as there is another company that does this and then they are installed at the US assembly plants. That is my connection as they use today's standards and no wire in the manufacturing. Most are use made and some are getting assembled in Mexico.

No offense was taken in any way, yes there are some places that will put any color you want into a kit. It is very hard for me as those colors are not used in modern cars. I did the Metal Tech orange as we used his interior to make the original patterns and those were hand cut before they went to manufacturing using a router to cut the patterns and I have the opportunity to use any color.

I can use perforation and contrasting stitching but rather keep them as close to stock as I can.
