Hello,
Several threads talked about plastic gear worn out as the main culprit. My Lexus 470 front seats can move forward but not backward. And I do not hear motor humming when attempting to move seat backward. Could that be a bad contact in the motor switch? Thank you.

The header at the top of the thread says Lexus 450, but your question in the thread says Lexus 470, So which is it, are you working on a 450, or 470?

There is a plug on the side of the gearbox that has come out. If you continue to run the seat the gears will destroy themselves.

The switches are known to have problems. Probably best to take the switch apart and see what all the contacts look like. I had to rebuild my LX450 switch a few years back.

Here is a thread that shows how the switches work and what can happen to them.

Thanks for the response. Yes, the plug was gone and the gear probably destroyed. I can follow those threads to replace the plastic gears. But before heading that way, I want to make sure nothing else I have overlooked. If the gear is bad, why would I not hear the motor spinning when put in reverse? Remember the seat can still move forward ( I can barely fit in there now).

FWIW - I recently had the gears replaced on my 80-series. It was the same as you describe - wouldn’t move, no motor noise.

My seats were locked up and I went in and replaced the gears. Before I took things apart I could hear the motors trying to move the seats but nothing happened. When I took everything apart I found that the gears were fine and all the of grease around the gears was hard and preventing things from turning. I replaced the gears anyways, regreased everything and now they work perfectly.

I guess I will take it apart and see what is wrong. Thanks
