Double checking once I get home...but I believe I have a California vehicle with a Federal engine and harness. They are not the same. :crybaby:

So, after much hand ringing and help from a couple of intrepid 3FE owners, I am the proud owner, at a mere cost of 3 shells and a small round stone(just how much is that by the way?) of a female end of this infamous EB1 plug.

Smashing.:D
Onward with the install and maybe, just maybe there will be spark.
Here we go...

Today, so far.

What's the trick to get the ends out of the relay block in this last picture? Haven't found a way to get them out yet.:o

I'm not sure how those work but usually the terminals have a barb that is a one-way deal. sometimes you can use a little dental pick or push something skinny and metal in from the other way or hook it and slide out- kind of like a credit card on a locked door latch...

Three of the terminals are just average female 1/4 flat spades. The 4th is for a ATO blade fuse and is different. None of the examples on my NEW female EB1 plug have any type of barb on them. Looking at the bottom of the relay block, there appears to be a bit of a ramp or barb made into the plastic. I've tried but may not have quite the proper tool yet.
I'll search for something more appropriate and try again.
I had butt connectors ready to go and I thought I'd give MUD a try first. Thanks Kief.
Onward,

im jealous, im at 4k miles on my recent headgasket rebuild, i miss tinkering on the motor. i guess someday when i get some more funds i want to pull the motor and do what you did.

and no release of any factory sealed smoke...so far.

Ended up so. Wasn't able to release the little beasties from the relay block housing...so.

OK, so still no ignition start. Seems to have some spark, albeit weak, but no lite off. Pulled a plug and it smells ever so slightly of fuel. Have to check that out also.
Sooo, tried a little ether to help things along. Maybe upstream of the MAF wasn't the best place to spray.
Gave it a go, a little blinky on the check engine lite and now...

:confused::bang:
Going to check fuel and make sure those pins on the harness at the computer actually have the power they're supposed to. Looks like something went south.:whoops:
Onward, again,

I'd skip the starter fluid.. If it runs it should start right up but the EFI doesn't like stale gas and there is a lot of fuel in the lines. I would pump fuel out past the filter until you have fresh fuel- the smell is a dead give away. Be careful, gasoline is very flammable. I couldn't tell ya why you'd have a weak spark aside from the points being bad. ;)

Make sure you have fuel flow- Is the fuel fresh? Is the battery fully charged?

Roger that. Battery fully charged. Fuel was fresh a couple of months ago. I had drained the old (4 yr old) fuel. Smelled like varnish. Very yellow. Will try to check fuel pressure this weekend and just might have to dig into the fuel tank and replace the pre-filter. I'm sure it's in poor shape.
Oh boy...:bang:

I would say skip the prefilter- run a hose off the filter into a clear container and see if you have flow. I've pulled two tanks off of rigs that had sat and it looked like they been used for fryer grease storage- Had to take the pump apart and scrub the pick up with solvent - Laquer thinner or denatured Alcohol... that bad. If you have flow then you can deal with the tank later.

Good idea. Still have to pop the hose off. Everything is so dang tight.
There is also the no spark sit that has returned.
I'm so dang frustrated. I'm not a mechanic and not sure what I was thinking when I took this project on. It is all back together but...oh yeah, it just doesn't run.
Real close to offering this pig up for sale. Really hate to see it go without it running but my ability to solve this is proving I'm no damn mechanic.:bang:
Thanks Kief,

Let The Re-Power Begin in Earnest

You gotta call this rig "Earnest" - Ya know what I mean?
Hang in there Russ! Let me know if you need a hand. I'm no mechanic either, but I can drink beer and point at stuff.:D
Butt

Oh baby, what an idea. The drinking and pointing I mean. :hillbilly:
Really, I like the 'new' name.
Formerly 'my spare land cruiser', now introducing 'Ernest'.
Thanks Chuck. Spot on.

p.s. I see my problem all along now. I've only been pointing.
note to self: pointing only works while or after drinking:cheers:

Step back take a deep breath... maybe pay someone to finish it off or bribe a local pro-mechanic to spend some after hours with ya on this one?
Did you establish that the block has a good ground?
