Let The Re-Power Begin in Ernest

Step back take a deep breath... maybe pay someone to finish it off or bribe a local pro-mechanic to spend some after hours with ya on this one?
Did you establish that the block has a good ground?

I've had an expert advise me recently. Still I'm the one on site.
There is power at the relay block. The main power in is hot.
I've had this OFF my mind today and feel like hitting it again. I haven't given up.
I really want to see this sucker run. You know, kind of a testament to my, well...you know...my :wrench: ability. Ability? Did I say that?:hillbilly:

Thanks for hangin' in there Kief. You are true blue mate.;)

Sounds like you are having quite the go. I know nothing about the 3FE and only slightly (OK, minimally) more about the 1FZ. Just wanted to say, keep it up. Don't go and sell the rig. You will get it - as you seem like a stubborn sort of guy!

Whether or not the wife's old 91 3FE did or did not have the EB1 connector, I thought of where the wires I'm interrupting or tapping into came from on Ernest?

Found them.:bang:

hidden in the alternator harness(where it should have been). did not see the first time through.

After checking for fuel, cleaning the spark plugs and a healthy dose of starting fluid, no start.
Will borrow the in-line spark tester I had earlier and retest for spark and check timing also. Could be the culprit now.
So...:o...:hillbilly:

A spark plug or the neighbor you don't like will work just as well, if you like your neighbor then have them crank while you watch the spark plug. If you have the despised neighbor hold the lead off the coil and lean up against the vehicle and he lets out a #@$@#$ then you've got spark. Just use an old plug and a plug wire in the output of the coil or an individual plug wire ground it out and have the neighbor or wifey crank for you if you don't want to get beat up..
IF you have a spark make sure everything is timed right, distributor and all that. Even if you have fuel and spark but you aren't firing right it won't work.

That's the plan. My 'guru' should be coming over tonight after work to help push me along.
Almost excited, but... I'll wait...:bounce::bang::bounce2:

Have spark at #1 spark plug.
That's as far as I got tonight. Lakers v. Celtics don't you know. Go Lakers!
Onward,

:eek:It runs.

WOOOHOOOO! Nice... does it run and drive? How well?

Perserverance paid off. Now you will need the same level of perserverance if you want to sell it for a reasonable price ;)

pl

Something with the tranny. Fluid level or something. Seems to run fine. No final smog Cert yet, of course, so no licence plate yet.
Moving on now..:p

What was the culprit?

Someone installed the distributor 180 out. :o:hillbilly:
Swaped the wires around and adjusted the timing a bit and it seems to run smoothly.
Fluid level must be off in the tranny. Doesn't positivley engage. You have to rev it a bit to get any type of egagement.
I'll drop the pan fluid and see how much I really have in there.

That my friends, is a running 3FE. No, really. Take my word for it.

Oh no. Not this little stock height, mild powered panty waste.
Base line, tune up and ...? and on the sales block he goes.
Must turn for cash and put it into a milage car for Sam. He doesn't like the milage the Avalon gets let alone what the LC would cost. Not that he wouldn't like to drive it but the gas, my god the gas.
Still, the thought of 'fixin' up a RUNNING 80 is kind of fun and comforting especially now that the EB1 connector saga has played itself out.
Do love the 80 series.

Just to show it does move on it's own.:p
No, I didn't push it onto the grass.

Nice work Russ, congrats! Looks like a clean rig.
Butt

That was one of the main reasons I picked it up. Even cleaner than the 3FE the wife had a few years ago.
Thanks, but it's not quite over yet.
Still, having it run is a major step forward. Now I can actually go forward.:D
