Maybe this belongs in SQOD? How long is the rear axle?

I need to pull them out to do my rear diff, but I'm trying to figure out how far from the wall I need to be to get that side out.

I have this fear that I'm going to end up too close and at that point be stuck without a way to move the car to get clearance to remove it.

I suppose I can measure the length approximately before taking anything apart, but an actual measurement would be awesome to be more certain.

The diff is not centered so the axles are different lengths. As a ballpark you could measure from the hub flange to just inside the diff. Unless you are replacing the outer bearings you should only need to pull them out far enough to clear the diff carrier?

Thanks, good to know For some reason, I think I ordered a seal that requires removal of the shaft to install. I'll have to review the procedure again.

A rough guess tells me it's about 28-30 inches. The axle opening is large and should allow a good angle of the spline end to sneak out.

As I'm working on an off-road trailer again, I know my sidewall to sidewall is 78". Minus ~10" for wheel, wheel spacers, and 12.5" tires on both sides. And minus ~8" for diff carrier. 62" / 2 = ~30"

Actually, this was true for the 100-series. The 200-series has a centered diff, and left and right axle are the same part number (42301-60030).

I stand corrected! I should have looked before I posted. I was going off of the 100 series axle. I assumed they were the same.

All good! You had me guessing if I might have swapped my axles the last time I R&R'd my bearings as I thought they were the same. Hence looking up the part number ;)
