Hi Guys, my Auzzie import HZJ is letting water into the passenger side foot-well and having stripped the insides; seems its worst effected. The car is standing at the moment and with the crap weather we're having ... anyway I recon its coming in from the scuttle and see a row of screw if I remove these and the wiper arms can I then remove the scuttle panel ? how easy is it to remove the wing ? is there any rubber seals I should look for, either missing or damaged....

Thanks in advance

Matt

In the 1st pic you can see a rubber seal that is underneath the windscreen frame. That rubber seal is usually the culprit. Aftermarket seals are about $70 in oz

To get access you undo all the visible bolts and remove the windscreen wipers . Then you lift the roof about 30mm and undo a hidden bolt on each side.
You can see the bolt hole in the 2nd pic.

The rubber seal is held in by some plastic pins that push through holes in the body

When bolting it together,I get them all in finger tight and then tighten them evenly starting at the bottom.

My rubber was all good and I give it a coat of rubber grease before I installed the new w/s frame and glass

For temporary fix you can apply an even bead of black sealant between the w/s frame and body.
I located the leak on my other cruiser by slowly going over it with the garden hose until it leaked.

If its not the rubber seal ,you may have a rust hole letting water in like mine.

Damm I guess its possible I don't have a folding screen.... for sure I don't have hinges. Its a 88 model year. With the pop-up roof conversions I can't see if there is a joint above the screen. So assuming its not a folding screen there must be a hole or corrosion on the bulkhead.
The seam on the passenger foot well is a little rotten, but as it fills without being driven I guess its not coming from there. I'll pull off the scuttle panel over the weekend and take a look... as its nearly rust free, I pray for no massive hidden corrosion.
The hose won't be needed as its rained every day for the last 2 weeks and they forecast at least another week...
I'm ready to move south !!

Its a troopy then and being an 88 ,its a HJ75 .
Windscreen probably needs resealing which usually means a new windscreen as well as they dont come out too well

Might be some ideas in this thread;)

Rosco thanks a million, great link.... seems I'm not the only one.....

Thanks for taking the time to find the link...

Cheers Matt

""I had a similar problem (passenger side only) and it turned out to be dodgy sealant.
After chasing the leak for months, I finished up removing the panel in front of the windscreen (where the wipers are) and this exposed some caulked joints which looked OK, but after a bit of probing, moisture could be seen under the sealant.
I removed the old sealant, dried it out, and re caulked with silicon.
Had no trouble since. ""
