I ran across this thread in the 80s forum. Has anyone ran across the same fact pattern on a 100? My 2003 LC leaking gas from top of tank - only when full. Strong gas smell rest of the time. Same gas tank as late 80s series so it would be somewhat logical that the same design flaw would carry over. Filler hose and fuel pump connections appear bone dry. Any thoughts appreciated.

So you see the gasoline dripping! under the tank, near front area? Pictures?

There are some threads (do a search) in mud of gas tank leak on top. This is not common and typically a rust bucket. In most case you'll see gasoline, when tank full an vehicle parked at just the right angle, so that gasoline floods out leak point. Front end lower than rear seem to reveal, more so than other parked angles.

Note: 03-07 has charcoal canister in rear above spare tire. Which OM states: Stop pumping in fuel at first auto shut off of filling station pump handle. Topping tank further damages (foolds) the CC.

Best way to see top of tank, is through the hatch under second row seat. It same hatch we pull to replace fuel pump.

Sometimes when fuel pump replaced, old seal reused or seated poorly. But as you can see there are other points that could leak, after worked on.

Everything you suggested was laid out in my post. 80s forum - ck see link in my post. Filler hose & Pump connections - ck see my post. Did you read it? My questions were - 1. Has anyone seen this happen on a 100 & 2. Any suggestions before I drop/replace the tank?

Respectfully

No I did not read 80 series link.
I asked two things of you: "So you see the gasoline dripping! under the tank, near front area? Pictures?

As to your ? 1. "This is not common and typically a rust bucket." Meaning; no we don't see in 100 series unless a rust bucket, with few exceptions. Which is why you're not getting responses.

As to your ? 1 & 2. "There are some threads (do a search) in mud of gas tank leak on top" I'll expand on this second repost: Search in 100 series tech section.
I thought those answered your questions.

I then went that extra and offered some info.

Sorry if me length responses wasted your time!

Hi

Same problem here. Land Cruiser HDJ100, 1999, 4.2 Diesel. Filler and fuel pump completely dry. I live in Germany. We have a lot of salt and snow in the winter.

When I add about 30 to 40 litres, then it begins to leak. So it can't come from the top of the fuel tank, because this is only about one third of the capacity. When I fill the tank completely, than the tank leaks very much. So the hole can also be at the bottom of the tank, because of pressure from the fuel.

I think, it is a rust problem between tank and skid plate. Salt, snow, water, dirt and not possible to clean it.

Regards from Germany
