Is this fact?

I always thought that is was a fed mandate. I also know that some vehicles do have HID's in a HID "reflector", which still provides a proper cutoff and beam pattern, but is sub-par compared to todays factory xenon projectors... Nissan and Lincoln had them (Maxima and Aviator, the US QX56 as well I believe). I do not think they are auto-leveling, but the models with those style headlights were manufactured back around 2004-2006. don't quote me on that, but I think the NHTSA started to mandate headlight systems after those years, when factory HID started becoming very popular.

Maybe I stand alone on this one, but I don't like the LEDs and HID headlamps. It just reminds me of an Audi or Land Rover. I don't want my TLC compared to either one. I love Defenders and Discos, and the newer LRs are beautiful, but they're nothing compared to the reliability or capability of a TLC.

So let me get this straight, you'd rather have dim lights compared to brighter clearer safer lights because you don't want to be like the other marks? I think you're buying the LC for the wrong reason.

I've never had too many complaints about my headlights as they are. They seem sufficiently bright for night driving. They're infinitely brighter than the lights Ford put on my other two vehicles. I don't even mind the HID lamps in the "leaked" photos...but I could do without the LED accent lights.

And, why was it again that I bought a LC?

DOT mandates certain height of a HID headlight. LandCruiser and LX570 are to high up. I doubt thats a USDM headlight. That balast has arabic written on it, the LandCruiser pictured in the original post is not a USDM spec LC and it's also 2UZ powered, and just because it has an amber lens doesn't make it USDM.

For example:

All Denso Ballasts have Arabic writing on them. Look at the GS430 ballast I posted earlier. It very well could be USDM.

More light the better! My LC has 6 HIDs on the front. It's amazing what I can see while offroading at night!

I'll post some pics if people are interested...

At stock height the g lights may be a little lower to the ground.... Sorry nothing stock left in the stable. But, I seem to recal when stock the hood of the g was not quite as tall as the yota.

The main problem I have with the g HIDs is they get moisture in them when submerged. The stealer claims this is an inherent property of HIDs. When I heard this about a year ago I speculated that this is why Toyota stayed away from HIDs in the Lc. maybe Toyota now has a solution.

If anyone is in search of brighter lights I highly recommend sulvania ZXEs. They are better than advertised and the stock bulbs are pretty poor in my opinion.

Put it this way, do you think Toyota designed the droopy headlight projector on the GX460 for styling? The reason why the GX460's headlights are the way they are is to meet DOT requirements to sell these rigs with HID headlights. It wouldn't surprise me if the next LX/LC had some sort of droopy headlight assembly to offer HID's on them.

Just to show you example of big vehicles with HID headlamps placement.

The Escalade's HID projector is on the lowest part of the headlight assembly:

The Kenworth T660 HID projectors are positioned low for HID legality:

Does anyone else think its funny how people are getting excited over headlights? You'd think they were bringing the TT diesel to the US.

Explain? The US requires Xenon headlights to be at a certain height. Just like headlights cannot be below 19", I'm not sure what the max height is.

Also, I checked up on some posts above, I was wrong about HID housings They do not have to be self leveling.

I have noticed the lens retainer looks almost identical to the RX330 projector ( also used in IS350), it's not a bi-xenon lamp but provides a good output if tuned properly. I can barely see the projector through the spacing and honestly can't tell it it's self leveling or if they are Adaptive headlights. Most of those projectors are capable, but they are either hard mounted or on a plethora of sensors. I can take photos tomorrow if anybody is interested in seeing the projector and it's output. I'm not 100% certain, but I'm close to nailing down what Toyota has stuff in there. A bunch of parts from other models.

Actually Hilux4WD, the GX headlights aren't for styling. I've talked to a few senior techs at Lexus and they are truly positioned to meet DOT requirements. Since they are tech's trained to work on said vehicles, they do get this information. You can email Lexus about this and they to can confirm it's for DOT requirements.

The reason why HID's have a certain height limit is because the intensity of the lighting causes glare on oncoming vehicles. Even if the vehicle sporting these light's were properly adjusted but sit to high, they still glare. This is why these headlights are required to be at a certain height. I am a Class A license holder and DOT rules and regulations are a big part of my job. I never cared to remember the height legality because I never modify my factory headlights. I can get you guys the article to confirm the next time I run into the DOT.

There's no excitement in here about headlights, its just a discussion pertaining to the topic. The topic is headlights, so we talk about the headlights. There's a thread or two about the diesel engine and we've talked about it and got over it so we'll leave the diesel talk in that thread. Just my opinion.

The above makes alot of sense.
