Hey guys, I picked up a FE LC250 about 3 weeks ago and have been loving it…until today. While driving at low speed today the “hybrid malfunction-see your dealer” warning message came on. Has anyone experienced this issue and, if so, what has been your experience and how difficult was the dealer fix? I did a search but didn’t see anything posted on this yet. If I’m wrong, please direct me there. Thanks!

Way too soon for any of that! Like 200K too soon. How long did lights stay on? Did you turn off and turn back on? Have you pulled out manual and looked for this message and what it could mean? I am hoping nothin at all or very minor hiccup w quick fix.

I drove it home with reduced power and, yes, I did turn it off and turn it back on with no change in the warning message. It happened this afternoon so I haven’t jumped into the manual yet but I will tomorrow a.m.

I am reluctantly sending you this - because you don't know yet what your situation is. But perhaps this can prepare for possibilities. By the way its from Landcruiserforum.com :

My LC has about 2,500mi on it to date and I just received it from the dealer in mid-July. Last week I drove it from Eastern WA to the west side for my quarterly in-office visit which ended up being about (850-900mi round trip) with a major malfunction. Now it's currently at my local dealer and the local tech just called me to say found the stored codes and tracked them to issue with a faulty Pressure Control Solenoid. He's still waiting to speak with Toyota to see how they'd like to proceed and that he will call me back later this afternoon. I'll share more details below.

I made my 320mi drive on Saturday when I got nearly home and decided to pull through my local taqueria. I pulled up to the window for my dinner when I noticed that the engine didn't shut off like it usually does sometimes at a complete stop. I didn't think much of it, plopped my tacos on the passenger side and pulled out of the parking lot. As I enter the road and press the accelerator, the engine revs like it's in neutral. I look down to see that the shifter is in neutral and at that same moment I hear and feel a big thunk like I was just rear-ended. After a quick check in my mirrors to make sure I'm not causing an accident the dash starts to light up with orange lights and warnings including Drive-Start Control Malfunction, PKSB System Malfunction, Hybrid System Malfunction, DRCC & PCS system malfunction screens along with orange indicators for the brake system warning, driving assist, DRCC & PCS. (I made sure to grab a video so I could remember what the warnings were in case it shut off)

The media console was also throwing up errors and directing me to call my dealer for service. I called immediately, not expecting to reach anyone at 7:30p on Saturday. Since the Land Cruiser still had power I drove it the 2 miles left until home. The car drove like it was in limp mode and I parked it in my driveway for the rest of the weekend. The next day I wanted to see if it still had all the same errors or if I'd be able to drive it to the dealer, so I started it up and almost all of the errors had disappeared except the one that said Hybrid System Malfunction. I shut it back off and waited until Monday morning. When I started it up that time, there were no error messages so I made it to the dealer when they first opened and left it with them.

They swapped keys with me for a new Highlander and said that my warranty agreement would cover the loaner through the week while they diagnose and work on my rig. I didn't hear anything else yesterday so I called and left a message to inquire about it this morning. A little later this morning I got the call with the solenoid diagnosis at the top. Of course, I'm only partially mechanically inclined so I google 'Land Cruiser Pressure Control Solenoid', and the results sort of line up with my experience. However, I'm not exactly sure how the system works with the hybrid integration in the transmission, and I'm curious what Toyota will say and if it's going to be a replacement of just the solenoid or if they found more damage with the transmission.

And the latest update on this particular case was from Monday;

I just got the news this morning... My Trail Dust will be in the shop for the foreseeable future. They are going to be doing a full transmission swap and also replacing the torque converter. It's likely going to take a while to get the parts off the assembly line so I won't expect to see it back for a month or so. I stopped in at the dealer to see if they had a TRD Off-Road 4-Runner available for me to use in the interim and swap keys for the Highlander that they loaned me.

Hope yours is not this issue but if you want to follow along on the Landcruiser forum - look for post from member "Travileec" August 20,2024.

Thanks for the info…coincidently mine is trail dust as well (Lol). I did have a bunch of warning lights when it first happened and as with this story, mine only shows the malfunction message now when I started it. I hope it’s not as serious also but I made an appt at the dealer for Tue a.m. and I’ll update this thread as I get mor information.

*Update* Warning Message cleared over the weekend but I took the truck in anyway. Received a call this afternoon and was told the hybrid warning code was likely a low voltage issue but no cause for concern. However, they also found that it had thrown a code from one of the transmission solenoids and will be keeping it a few days to inspect the transmission and try to duplicate the code. As has been stated on other forums, the issue is new as the tech and vehicle are new so the dealer had to call Toyota for direction. Now I wait.

Well this is not good news for any of us. No vehicles is completely without issue but we all have much higher than average expectations.
I think that’s my issue with it. I know, new tech, new problems, but I 86’d my defender when the 250 came out thinking I’d save myself headaches in the long run. Fingers crossed for a quick fix this week.

And so, it begins... Land Rover owners' revenge when they do not see your brand-new Prado in your driveway for the next month or so. We all know the stories with Defenders.

Ouch, I have an LX570 in my driveway, recently sold a 62, owned a 100 series, and a 62 before tha; not to mention the 1/2 dozen 4Runners and tacomas over the years. I’m not a hater by any means and I jumped at the opportunity to buy my FE. I started this post as a reflection of my experience real time, nothing more.

I am not a hater. Far from that. Toyota fan boy here that owns a 200LC HE and a last year 4Runner trd pro. I hope I am wrong and these are isolated cases but we all know the risks of buying a first year model with a hybrid/turbo - even a Toyota these days.

I am still optimistic. There are too many LC250's out there that already have a few thousand miles on them with no issues at all. Yes it's a new model, but really with any vehicle there will be a small number that encounter an issue right off the start, and unfortunately yours might be one of those. I also think your issue will be minor and is somehow related to the battery and electronics related to it. Hopefully will get full resolution on this soon.

** Update **
I picked up my truck this afternoon. The dealer performed multiple diagnosis testing iterations that yielded no solenoid warning code such as the one that was stored in the history; and other testing to insure the solenoids were all working properly. After this testing, Toyota informed the dealer to close the case and chalked it up to a low voltage anomaly causing the hybrid malfunction warning message but no reasonable explanation for the isolated solenoid code. Happy to have it back…

Thanks for the updates and glad nothing serious. Seems the same on the other forums - all issues cleared up on their own. Speculation on what is causing these few issues is everything from bad gas cap (vapor sensor) to computer incorrectly signaling low voltage for some reason..

Good Morning , same thing happened to me with my LC250 2.8 diesel with 700 Km (Venezuela Spec), we open the transmission and and found a faulty Presure Control solenoid (35290-60080), im waiting for the new solenoid to replace it and see if it fixes the problem.
